We put on the new harness and took her out onto the balcony She wasn't very interested. We much later took her outside and she wanted to hide behind a dark place. A neighbour came out with two small dogs, and she immediately arched her back. Instinct or experience? I'll go for the latter. She already knew dogs.
She didn't seem interested in the outside world, and she was trembling. We quickly brought her back to the apartment, her home where she feels safe. She hadn't been into my wardrobe for a couple of days, but that was where she went once back home
I think it is cat toy shopping tomorrow.
Ah, poor Jass - sensory overload.
ReplyDeleteJB, possibly true.
DeleteNone of my rescued cats wanted to go out. They'd had enough scary experiences I think. They were happy with their indoor life, not interested in hunting. In fact they were scared of any little creature, mouse, toad, that got in the house and demanded I take care of it!
ReplyDeleteBoud, not so brave little lions.
DeleteA little at a time I guess. The cat toys are a great idea

I'm on to it today, Alison.
DeleteShe may have thought you were going to abandon her outside. Poor little girl. I've had cats escape my cat yard and they instantly try to get back in and panic if they can't find the way back in.
ReplyDeleteStrayer, she had previously explored the landing on our floor, but she has lost curiosity with that now. I might just be halter on and a sit on the balcony in the future, if she wants.
DeleteEven a little kitten would arch his back, has nothing to do with a dog, could be a cat or even a mouse, it's just the unknown. It seems to me that your cat is an inside cat, Rosie has become one, she even doesn't dare to go further the door ! And she was an outside cat until we mouved. Now she feels safe inside and doesn't want to go outside. Only pay attention that she doesn't jump over the balcony wall ! Anyway a cat educates you and not the other way around like with a dog, lol !
ReplyDeleteIngrid, yes she will have her halter on if she goes on the balcony. Your point about Rosie is a good one.
DeleteYour wardrobe is her safe place. I would just take her on the balcony very occasionally, don't bother with the big bad outside world. My Lola sits by the screen door and looks out but has no interest in going out, though she did escape once in the first year I had her, I sat by the door until she came back just after midnight. I think she ran and then hid from neighbours who thought she was lost and tried to catch her.
