I am not Jass' keeper. I just pay, and give her a tuna treat mid afternoon. And vacuum up her fur at times. She does shed fur but not badly. It most lands on the carpet where it is vacuumed up, although I did see a ball of fur had gathered in one place, probably where the air con fan had blown it.
I don't know if it is a gender thing or not, but I've found male cats much easier to deal with than female cats. Once neutered, boy cats are quite chilled and relaxed. It is only three weeks since Jass was spayed, so hormones could still be affecting her.
Today Phyllis and Kosov were out relatively early, Phyllis having fed Jass. She wandered around a bit. She makes very faint meowing noises very often. I can tell she has experienced the outdoors, and hungers to get outside. We learnt that she was found on a street, without a tag or microchip. Her age was judged to be one year old. I think she is a bit older. She is too wise in the ways of life to only be one year old.
She sat on a lounge chair for most of the day, very content At 5pm, she began to bother me. Did she want her dinner three hours early? Probably. But Phyllis and Kosov were late home, and I think she wanted them to be here. Her strongest attachment is to Kosov.
Phyllis came home loaded with stuffs from a new store called Panda. I know nuffin'.
In Richmond we bought her a cat house with the scratching pole. She has used the scratching pole a couple of times, but her preference is for the underside of beds, and the back of my very expensive desk chair. She has learnt that kitchen bench tops are verboten. Well, mostly.
One reason I think she is older is that she understands a sharply said 'no', very well.
Once Phyllis and Kosov were home, for the second night in a row, she decided to exercise by tear arsing around the apartment, diving into empty shopping bags, and generally behaved in a crazy manner for about fifteen minutes.
Last Friday at the vet for a welfare check, she had lost 700g/1.5lb since she was weighed before we chose her. Now she has settled in, her often lack of interest in food has disappeared and she now looks forward to food. She isn't a big cat, but I am a little concerned she is not eating enough.
She isn't wearing a collar, in spite of her having three blingy collars. A Temu package arrived this week, which included a cat harness for visiting the big outdoors, and who knows whatever crap.
I wouldn't call her an affectionate cat, more like one who expects her servants to serve her needs, and who she must at times acknowledge.
Oh yes, in the Temu package was something for me, a new mouse mat to replace my well worn London Tube Train map mat.

We call that wild mad running around, up and over, the ZOOMIES! They are fun to watch, as long as nothing gets damaged.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great word. For the first time, today she had a morning zoomie, then later a walk in her new harness just around inside and on the balcony.
DeleteHi Andrew, I have never ordered online and I have heard many negative things from those who have ordered from Temu. The mouse pad made me laugh 😂
ReplyDeleteI have occasionally Linda, generally ok, but I prefer to shop in person. Phyllis tells Temu is very hit and miss.
DeleteI am watching your cat capers with barely contained amazement....
ReplyDeleteJayCee, I am watching myself with barely concealed amazement.
DeleteHow to wash a cat.
ReplyDeleteStop all bloodthinners for one week prior to bath date.
Stock up on bandaids.
Get a pair of arm length gloves.
Try to wash cat.
Decide cat doesn't really need a bath.
Wash your wounds and apply bandaids while cat licks itself clean, all the while give you dirty looks.
That's hilarious Pixie, and probably close to the truth. So I would have to begin preparing a week before.
DeleteTwo years ago you'd never have guessed your life would resemble knock about comedy! This looks like fun.
ReplyDeleteBoud, I certainly doubt looking ahead two years that I would be laughing so much. Odd, that I thought I was so mentally prepared to live alone.
DeleteJass sounds like she’s quickly made herself queen of the household
ReplyDeleteOh she has Roentare, she has indeed.
DeleteThe boys know cats! My son and GD have two . Honestly you would be amazed at products available for pets. They have automatic feeding and water bowls a self cleaning litter trays. When the humans go away for a couple of days they have a monitor so the cats can ve viewed at all times. The cats have both fresh and dried food.at appropriate times.
ReplyDeleteWhen the humans go on hold the cats go to a cattery were videos of them are sent each day. By the way they bath their cats as well.Weird times Andrew but so much fun and love with pets
Yes, you couldn't rely on automatic feeders without some way of monitoring that they working. Can washing can be done. If you know of the late RSPCA Dr Hugh Wirth, he once demonstrated how to bathe a cat. The cattery where sister's cats stayed was excellent.
DeleteThis from American comedian Steve Martin:
ReplyDelete“I gave my cat a bath the other day...they love it. He sat there, he enjoyed it, it was fun for me. The fur would stick to my tongue, but other than that...”
Good one, Kirk.
DeleteFreddie and Houdi get their 'zoomies' about 4 am. Every stinking morning.
ReplyDeleteDebby, I think I am wise then to keep my bedroom door shut. They can deal with 4am zoomies.
DeleteShe's young and bored. Imagine being a cat in an apartment with nothing to occupy time. My cats love the wand toy Da Bird. It has to be hidden between playtimes. Catnip, she may or may not love it.
ReplyDeleteStrayer, she possibly is bored. The lads play with her a lot when they are home. We did buy a fish like toy supposedly with catnip inside, but she is not interested. Thanks for your tips. Cat toy shopping tomorrow.
DeleteLove the mouse mat. I like the cat house too, it's similar to the one I bought Angel though it was easily seven feet high. The water dispenser is a great idea. I would never attempt to bathe Lola, but just wiping with wipes might be okay, but still a big no-no for me. I have taught her to stay still while I dab diluted dettol onto the places she scratches raw with her dermatitis, much cheaper than a $75 shot from the vet and for almost two years now she hasn't scratched a single raw patch into any part of herself.
ReplyDeleteRiver, the diluted Dettol is interesting. Half and half? Well done with circumventing vet trips.
DeleteMore like a teaspoon in half a basin of water. Not strong at all, but enough to curb infection and stop the itching. I did the same with Angel when he had a rose thorn embedded, at first he wouldn't let me touch him but eventually it must have got too painful and I explained to him what I would do and that he had to stay still. He was very good with "Stay" and a hand held palm-facing him. Same as for a dog. Anyway. I prepared the dettol, pulled out the thorn and bathed the area while he lay perfectly still on the mat. Best cat I ever had.
DeleteYes your life has changed a lot but it is probably good for you so that you can't get swallowed up in grief when there is so much going on in your flat. I don't like cats very much I prefer dogs.
ReplyDeleteDiane, I do prefer dogs too, but it is impractical for me. If the lads leave and something happens to me, a cat will be ok for a couple of family members to take on, a dog is not so easy. I have moments of great sorrow but they pass quickly.
DeleteThe cat has taken over many aspects of your lives there, but it's nice to have purring cat, and it's spoilt too it seems. However, it's good to know Jass has a good home.
ReplyDeleteWho would have thought how your life would be two years after!
Margaret, she likes to be stroked and given attention, but she is not a lap cat and I don't think she has purred. Yes, who would have thought.
DeleteJass is still settling in. If she lived on the street she will have learnt to be wary and self-sufficient in order to survive. In time, she will relax and allow herself to trust.
ReplyDeleteYes JB. that is what we are working towards.
DeleteThat cat is spoilt, she will be taking advantage with three males to look after her. One thing, I hope the novelty of having a cat doesn't wear off.
ReplyDeleteThelma, after having three cats in my earlier life, I know that ultimately she is my responsibility. The novelty for the lads may wear off, but I will always be here to care for her. I thought about getting a cat long and hard and they lads both seem to be very caring towards her.
DeleteFamily life.
ReplyDeleteTP, a family I never expected.
DeleteYou have a full house now, Andrew.
ReplyDeletePat, still a spare bedroom, but don't get any ideas.
DeleteA one year old cat is already adult and can even have kitten ! But you have a boy and you are right, boys are easier and love cuddles. It's normal that your cat gets a mad attack and runs and jumps around in the whole house the English call that "the zoomies" they make strange noises, and all that means that they are happy. I have had cats since I was 21 and one even went with me everywhere sitting on my shoulder, she walked on a leash, but even without she followed me everywhere and she adored riding in a car, which most of the cats hate. We had 5 at once 4 females and a male, and they were all different. Cats have no eating times because they are little room tigers. I give Rosie wet food in the morning and she had dry food and water the whole day. In the evening she gets wet food again. But there is always dry food in her bowl. Some inside cats need grass for digestion, but not all. you will see if he uses his litter box for the big business, sometimes not every day but all two days. If you have questions you know my email ! I am Madame Cat here !
ReplyDeleteThanks Ingrid. I will consult you if I need to. I wasn't sure about leaving dry food in her bowl during the day. As we had dogs when we had cats, meant anything left would soon disappear.
