To whet your appetite, a twelve second clip. Oh my, can they sway their hips.
First released as a 12" single in 1983, it was re-released with this version in 1988. I bought a couple of 12" singles, one being a Liza Minelli collaboration with Pet Shop Boys called 'Losing my Mind'. The music is still as good as ever. The other was the rather obscure Drac's Back.
An old DJ said, back in the time Blue Monday was track to get people on the dancefloor, and went on to say, forty years later, it still is, rather like B52's Love Shack.
New Order with Blue Monday is almost the music of my yoof. I love it and I've been humming away all day.
You are right about those hips. And synchronised to boot.
ReplyDeleteEC, maybe a little rehearsing.
DeleteI sort of stopped following music trends back then. I am frozen in the 70s.
ReplyDeleteI've put up a post for you in the past then JayCee, the last clip in this post, https://fromthehighrise.blogspot.com/2023/02/living-in-70s.html
DeleteNow I'll be humming it.
ReplyDeleteThe dog looked purple. Must be the lighting.
Not tripping when you watched it Kirk?
DeleteBlue Monday rhythm is quite a techno
ReplyDeleteRoentare, quite early days of synthesisers too.
DeleteStalker
ReplyDeleteAndrew
Just love Liza….
Beyoncé and ‘Texas hold ‘em,’ just watch the video, there are also some great dance clips .
I can see you line dancing to this song…it becomes a worm in your head
Stalker, I can envision me to dancing but not line dancing. I'll give Beyonce a try. So many people can't be wrong.
DeleteOK,interesting but not really my cup of tea.
DeleteSome things stick in our brain and we sing and hum all day long..
ReplyDeleteMargaret, they certainly do, ear fleas.
DeleteWe remember the music and even the lyrics of the songs we loved back in the day. No wonder you are humming along :)
ReplyDeleteWe do Hels, and I do love to wallow in nostalgia...some of the time.
DeleteI didn't see enough hip swaying to be able to tell if they were good at it or not. 12 seconds just isn't enough. I listened to the other clip, but only about a third then I'd had enough.
ReplyDeleteRiver, such are Tiktok clips, republished on YouTube. I get that it isn't everyone's music.
DeleteStill much better than today's so called music.
ReplyDeleteDiane, as I experienced yesterday at a family picnic when there was music, mostly modern stuff. I didn't like it and only music I like should be played loudly.
DeleteI've never been a great follower of popular music. Some I like, some not, most I can live without.
ReplyDeleteJB, even as as a teenager?
DeleteAs Hels said, we remember ‘our time…..I must have had other things on my mind because this passed me by. Sounds very ‘night clubby’ - I didn’t understand a word they said😊
ReplyDeleteCan you still swivel them hips??
Cathy, yes quite night clubby. There many songs much worse than this one for being able to understand lyrics. Yes, I can make dance moves. I've noticed my balance seems a bit off but as I can still put my socks on while standing, I suppose it is not so bad.
DeleteI'm not playing. If I do they will be in my head for a week.
ReplyDeleteYep Tasker. That is what happens. But you can replace it with something else.
DeleteMay I humbly request a blog video of your good self and "R" dancing to "Blue Monday"? Come on now, don't be shy!
ReplyDeleteYP, we could do it, and I expect you and Shirley could too. It's nicer to see young people doing it.
DeleteAndrew, I don't want to see anybody doing it, I just want to see them dancing.
DeleteA video from way back when MTV played music - not endless crap.
ReplyDeleteTravel, I used to enjoy having MTV or other tv music clip programmes on weekend mornings when I was home. While one hit wonder MC Hammer's light rap was ok, it all became too heavy for me, and then clips became too overtly sexual. The art of the tease had gone.
DeleteLoved both Joy Division and New Order for different reasons. I still listen to New Order occasionally, and like you, I loved Blue Monday. Have heard/seen the mash up with Kylie? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVWQe6Cw9AI&ab_channel=RemixingPROJECTS
ReplyDeleteI think I have seen the clip James. I will watch it properly in bed tonight.
DeleteGood.
DeleteI quite enjoyed it, it was a sort of Abba recollection last week and I enjoy dancing to their music. Funny how music comes back to haunt us.
ReplyDeleteThelma, some music we completely forget about until reminded of them and sometimes they have held up very well. I wonder when aged care homes will have to change from White Cliffs of Dover to Abba.
DeleteI sent the New Order Youtube link to my husband. That video came out the year before we met. :) Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteDarla, and then your own new order began after you both met.
DeleteI had a cassette of New Order's greatest hits in the late '80s and played it a zillion times, but I don't think I've ever seen the video. William Wegman obviously had something to do with it. Oh, and I bought that Liza Minnelli/Pet Shop Boys collab as well!
ReplyDeleteAh Steve, it was Bernard Sumner that did it for me. Liza, yes with a zee, was terrific. Another good collaboration was KLF and Tammy Wynette with Justified.
