Inside The 'Gog

Steve wondered about the internal stained glass of the synagogue. I think R took these photos when he visited The 'Gog during an Open House day. I too have taken photos but I can't immediately find them.

So these windows are what are on the inside the externally brightly lit but opaque windows. Some are not great photos.

  1. It looks fascinating. Despite my heritage I don't think I have ever been inside a synagogue.

    1. EC, I can only describe it as church like, except for the gallery above the main floor where women sit.

    1. Roentare, with the ceiling being a copper dome but seems filled with light.

  4. The windows are lovely. Are they made in such a way the colours are only seen when inside the Synagogue?

    1. Yes River, and I think the exterior lighting must be on too.

  6. Odd imagery in the windows Andrew, one looked like two lighthouses leaning into each other. I'm struck by how all "holy" places look alike.

    1. I know WWW. I don't understand the images, even though I really like them. A church is a church is a synagogue, a temple, a mosque.

  7. I've never seen a place of worship quite like that. Very modern. It is interesting to get a glimpse inside though.

    1. Debby, the stained glass looks modern but the building is quite old. I don't know any more than that.

    1. JB, it was good to see the inside, what we can't see from the outside.

  12. I don't think that's what I would expect from Gog windows, thought they'd be more serious or something. Depict various forms of suffering.

Unexpectedly good

I didn't know what to expect at this exhibition and it took a while for the theme to sink into my ageing brain. It was an exhibition by ...
