England 17/05

R and I caught the bus to the city centre. Grainger Market is interesting. We walked a bit more but my arthritis kicked in so badly, I was constantly looking for a seat with a back to ease the pain and get my back upright. Sorry hon, I just want to go home, and we did.

We had a really nice Italian dinner that night at Oli and Joe's. Few photos were taken on the day.

R told me off for being weird, as I took a photo of my bus seat. You must agree, it is a rather nice looking bus seat and I think it was comfortable, perhaps not great for the wide hipped.

The City of Newcastle is really so cool.

From the bus, a bobby top.

I concluded that the owner of this very nice Mercedes was one of the owners of the Oli and Joe's. From the corner of my eye I saw the owner come out to check on what I was doing with his car. I was just interested.

Our food was so nice. Who knows what it cost. I've learnt to not bother with money when out. I don't know who paid. I just pay R what I owe when he does the sums on his phone.

  1. Newcastle is a lovely place to live (except for the hills). Just waved daughter off to return home there.

    1. Do tell me about the hills Tasker. I feel the centre of the city is so separated from the river and the station by a steep hill. Well for oldies anyway. I did want to see the Millenium Bridge raise and lower and I did see you get up the hills by bus, but we ran out of time.

  2. Oh my. That looks very .. cheesy... but tasty. My low fat diet would be straight out the nearest window.

  3. I am sorry about the arthritis - but glad you had the sense to go home. I often don't and everyone pays for my stupidity.
Hooray for delicious dinners. And yes to those seats, though they don't look friendly to those of us with wider beams.

    1. EC, the seats are not quite as narrow as they look in the photo. R and and I could sit beside each other.

  6. That looks like a very supportive bus seat.
Your dinner is making me hungry and I've only just had breakfast!

  7. The bus seat looks a tad.... slim and as though the sides have been deliberately folded in to make it so. FAT SHAMING! :P

    1. Bite a photography fail MM. It wasn't as narrow as it appears here.

  8. The bus seat looks weird but also looks cushy. I imagine it must be very hard rto design bus seats given the range of sizes they need to accommodate, narrow, wide, short, tall and everything in between.
Newcastle does look lovely and so does that food!

    1. River, it is hard as bus companies also want to cram in as many seats as they can. Generally public transport seating has become worse over the last couple of decades but these seats were comfortable.

  9. Newcastle has had a very up and down history since the Industrial Revolution, at least in peoples' minds.

    1. Hels, it was a rather awful place when R left in 1970. The EU and then PM Blair pumped some money north and it has not looked back.

  10. Lucky the car owner didn’t come out swinging- don’t touch my car!! Was it a different model to yours?

    1. Cathy, I was just looking. No need to punch me on the nose. Our car is a Mazda, this was a Mercedes, so rather different.

  11. Sure is an unusual bus seat. The meal looks scrumptious. Italian is my favourite food. Keep your mitts off the Merc. Did you see the big steel angel high on the hill in Newcastle?

    1. Diane, we've seen the Angel of the North a number of times. No need to see it again. We could see it in the distance from Sister 3's highrise building.

  12. I like the picture of the seat, looks artistic ! You are so lucky that you could take all your pictures with a digital camera or your phone, when we were in the States in the 80th I I made a few photos with a Polaroid, because I hated to buy a film, to get it developed etc. Marie from London shows now her Chicago trip and I see a lot of places where we have been.

    1. Gattina, it is hard to imagine the olden days with photo cameras. I used some awful cameras before digital. Marie's photos have been great.

  13. That's a real pain regarding your back Andrew, I guess some days are better than others. That seat is looking good...and yes, don't worry about money when it comes to eating :) we are thankful that we have money to pay for the food whether eating out or in.

    1. Margaret, yes some days are better than others. I am usual fine by the afternoon but that is not when R likes to go out. I used to fuss so much about the what we spent out. I've cured myself of that.

  17. That's a nice looking spaghetti in your bowl. Sure you had enough parmesan cheese on it? Sorry that you had to battle through pain from your arthritis - what a curse that condition can be!

    1. YP, yes, I think I added just the right amount of parmesan. If the pain was always as it was that morning, I would seeking some very strong pain relief.

    1. Sorry Debby, not only did I leave you guessing, I also had the words wrong. I should have written bobby OR wooden top. That is the policeman wearing the traditional helmet, the police once called wooden tops.

  19. I am sorry your arthritis troubles you so. Ugh... I agree there are times not to worry about prices. Which reminds me, I still crave a trip to the US east coast. ~sigh~ Some nights I dream of unsuccessfully trying to reach the ocean. lol Best wishes!

    1. Darla, you should make the effort and visit the east coast. Funny dream really. Are you blocked by sand dunes as you reach the coast?
