Classy

I must have walked past this building many times without noticing its wonderful and stylish facade which I suppose is Art Deco. No, it is Moderne, a style I also like.

It appears to be a tiled facade and the tiles are smooth and very beautiful. I know you can't see the building very well in my photos. I will return when trees are leafless.

The ground floor of McPherson building appears to be vacant with a hoarding around it. I will take better photos in the winter.

  2. I think I have captured the building without the leaves in the past. Just in the file storage somewhere. It looks quite something I recall.

    1. Sandra, I still think it looks Deco. I thought moderne came a bit later.

    1. Indeed Caro. Maybe it was just a bit too new when he was operating at full speed.

  5. Being able to see the column-free facade, with alternating broad horizontal bands of glazing, looks terrific all along the length of the building. Have a look at how it looked in 1936:

    1. Margaret, you can see it better at the link Hels posted above. Trees are essential in cities. We need more and are getting more but they are disappearing in suburbs as old house blocks are almost covered in with new developments.

  7. Nice building. I almost took photos today od really old buildings on King William Street but as I reached for my phone I noticed my bus had pulled up and I would have missed it!
