How to piss off Kiwis, #101

Amazing Maps is truly amazing, with New Zealand off Australia's west coast and not where it is off our east coast. Mind, it would be very convenient. Perth to Rottnest Island, see the quokkas, and then a short hop to see the Kiwi bird in New Zealand.

  1. It would be helpful if Australia and New Zealand could be towed to The North Atlantic. This would reduce airfares for travellers moving between Europe and the antipodes. Concerns about water supplies in Australia would disappear along with the incidence of skin cancer. There would also be a new land bridge to America.

    1. Hmm. Kind of ok YP, but I've seen recent photos and I think we would need to be towed back for the northern hemisphere winter. You want a land bridge to America? Why?

    2. To avoid airfares entirely. I could just hitchhike over there.

    3. The days of free hitchhiking have passed. You will have to offer something in exchange for a lift to the US via the towed Australia.

    4. Okay. I'd bring along some biscuits.

    5. Towed to the North Atlantic?? No no no! A thousand no's. I don't have enough truly warming clothing, and there's a lot of other reasons for staying right where we are.

    6. River, think of the cost of all the warm clothing we would need, plus battery powered body warmers.

  2. Who drew up that map? That's nuts. I suppose they couldn't fit NZ in it, if depicted in its actual location.

  3. Very strange map indeed. I threw out all my old geography lessons and adapted.

    1. M, a press of a few keyboard keys and you can check out almost anywhere in the world in great detail now. Isn't that just amazing.

  4. Ha! I'm sure they moved it for the sake of making the map fit, but still. What's that "richer" country to the right of the Caspian Sea? One of the "stans"?

    1. Well spotted Steve. I was so focused with sympathy for NZ. Turkmenistan....why would....no, I'm not going there.

  5. Hmm. I am now imagining how pissed off several countries would be if the map messed with their size. Can you imagine our reaction if NZ was shown as bigger than us? Or the US's reaction if it was magically shrunk to fit?

    1. EC, I am smiling at the thought of NZ being shown larger than us. I honestly think we would just laugh. Not so the US though.

    1. I doubt Kiwi's are laughing Caro. It probably means New Zealand is further away for us.
