A random statistic I heard, one in seven Australian women will have breast cancer. Yes, even within the small circle I move in, I've known a number. In spite of much better treatments and results now, it is still a hell on earth treatment. And I complain about a three centimetre incision.

My cousin's daughter over there in NSW has been hospitalised several times after beatings by her drug addled boyfriend. He now has her hooked so she doesn't have the willpower to escape that treadmill of drugs and abuse.

ReplyDeleteLinda, a man here today was sentenced to thirty years gaol for killing his wife by pouring petrol over her and setting her alight. His step daughter was badly burnt trying to save her mother. At least it is uncommon enough to be reported.

Domestic violence and control over a partner is probably higher here among recent Indian immigrants. Support services are in place to help Indian women is such situations, but it comes with family shame.

Cancer is far too common, Andrew and a dreadful disease.
Margaret, I think at times people can control their anger, and at times choose not to when they have a compliant victim.

ReplyDeleteIn my whole life I have known only two women who had breast cancer. Both my parents died from different cancers, one bowel and one lung.
River, you don't have a huge number of people in your life. Even two is significant.
DeleteI simply won't hand it back to women to not trigger. This is about male behaviour, not about women triggering. No doubt men trigger women too, but generally they don't physically react.
There was an era when breast examinations were advertised on tv all the time. And to encourage women even more, the medical examinations were free.

DeleteFree, but very uncomfortable. The actual squishing doesn't hurt, but the skin beng pulled downward from the shoulder as the machine presses down feels very much like the "chinese burns" kids gave each other in the schoolyard.

DeleteThose cancer statistics are shocking (!) but please don't feel guilty over your complaints. ~hugs~ Getting an incision cannot possibly be fun and we have no way of experiencing something outside our own skin, our own bodies.
ReplyDeleteDomestic abuse sickens me. I've read stories about elderly parents being on the receiving end and even grandparents targeting one child to the point everyone else (both adults and siblings!) make the poor youngster's life hell.
I had to stop watching an old show called "Animal Cops" because some episodes sent me into a rage. If I ever land in prison it will likely be for my actions upon such a perpetrator.

DeleteI don't know anyone who's had breast cancer but some who've had bowel cancer. One or two who've died from melanoma.
