I'm joining with River and others for Sunday Selections, so here we go.
Bless 'em all, the long and the short and the tall. Prime Minister Gough Whitlam and Mrs Margaret Whitlam with the Emperor and Empress of Japan in the 1970s.
The late Queen of Australia, flanked by two people who Bob would refer to as the Felon or Crankles, and his Slovenian whore.
From Google Street View, Tin Tin's face is visible above the far white building from Brussels Midi Station, and looks a little faded now.
An art work outside Glen Huntly Station. It probably looks rather spesh at night.
You've left enough space me. Thanks mate.
Remembering the now long gone South Melbourne Tram Depot, where crews would walk up and down Dorcas Street to pick up their trams in St Kilda Road.

I have never heard about a green bread for Halloween !
ReplyDeleteNeither have I, but it sounds better than Burger King's 'scary whopper' some years back. The bun was black and scared people ran for medical advice after discovering their poo was bright green.
DeleteIngrid, it was just added green food dye.
DeleteDebby, for Ray's last birthday, last year when we were in Sydney, we ate black bun hamburgers at a restaurant, with the result as you describe.
DeleteAh .. so, cat proof loo rolls needed now.
ReplyDeleteJayCee, I don't think there is such a thing, but the ends of unused rolls could taped down, but that might lead to more wastage than the few sheets she damages. I don't leave any hanging paper on the holder now.
DeleteDo you know who made the sculpture on the wall at Middle Park and who it honours? Where can I find it?
ReplyDeleteHels, I've now put a link to some information about the sculpture.
DeleteJudging by the first picture, Margaret Whitlam was a real fashion trendsetter - leading the way for a whole generation of Australian women. No wonder Gough was besotted with her. Of him, she once said he was "quite the most delicious thing I'd ever seen".
ReplyDeleteImpressed with your command of Antipodean trivia, Puds. Pursuing the Gough and Margaret theme just a little further, in 1976, Gough (by then Opposition Leader after his dismissal by our G-G with the connivance of the Palace just 50 years ago next Tuesday) was with Margaret in Tianjin in China. There was an earthquake. The Melbourne 'Age' published a cartoon of Gough and Margaret in bed, evidently "post coitus" with a speech bubble from Margaret saying "Did the earth move for you too, dear?" This was decried as being in poor taste.
DeleteIronically, supposing the immediate outrage to have been provoked by the sexual aspect, the cartoon really was in poor taste because hundreds of thousands of Chinese were killed (this was the Tanshan earthquake).
YP, I was quite young and didn't take much notice of politicians until God Gough was sacked. Post the sacking, I think I concluded she was quite a nice and intelligent person, but yes, perhaps not a fashionista.
DeleteMC, YP always has his Google ready in his hand. Yes, because of the earthquake deaths, the cartoon does seem to be in poor taste. It would have been more funny though if they both had cigarettes in their hands.
DeleteInteresting story about the sculpture which I like quite a lot. I think over the years Japanese people have become a bit taller, or maybe the ones I see here are not 100% Japanese, or maybe western foods have made the change to the upsizing.
ReplyDeleteJass needs to be taught to leave the toilet paper alone. Spare rolls should be in a closed cupboard and a spray bottle handy to squirt her gently when she ventures near the one in use. If you hear her "in action" sneak up and spray in her direction. She should get the message after a few dampenings.
River, I don't know that Australians have grown much because we've generally been well nourished, but it is certainly the case in England where people have become taller post WWII and as you suggest, in Asian countries too, although too much nourishment has become an issue for many, with a high sugar intake. But I know a bit a bit about too much nourishment and its effect.
DeleteI've not caught her in action, but a water spray is a good idea. I doubt the lads would approve though, so I'll make sure they don't see me.
Cats need to learn boundaries whether the boys approve or not.
DeleteIn both photos the monarchs are on the small side. An apt metaphor for the state of royalty these days.
ReplyDeleteOf course, there's a president there whom I wish would be cut down to size.
Funnily Kirk, I saw maps today of Europe and the British Isles, comparing which countries had monarchies in the 1920s and now. Monarchies are much reduced.
Delete"Sovereign whore..." LOL
ReplyDeleteI liked it Roentare, although it was Slovenian Whore, but Sovereign works well too.
DeleteEven feral kittens in my bathroom find that toilet paper roll. How fun for Jass.
ReplyDeleteStrayer, fun for Jass at my expense.
DeleteInteresting selection of pictures this Sunday, Andrew.
ReplyDeleteCats can make a real mess of loo rolls, seems to fascinate them.
Not too sure about that colour in the banana bread!
Margaret, the banana bread being green was one week before Halloween too. Off putting, but it tasted nice.
DeleteCats will demolish a toilet paper roll! I've also photographed that TinTin in Brussels. The Queen was so funny, always carrying gloves long after everyone else had stopped wearing them.
ReplyDeleteNeither of our cats in the past were interested in toilet rolls, Steve. But they used to roam outside and were quite occupied with other things. I remember my grandmother wearing gloves to church, into the 70s.
DeleteI don't think I could eat green bread . . .
ReplyDeleteIt's only food colouring, JB.
DeleteI miss the Queen, her strong dignity.
ReplyDeleteIndeed TP, although Charles carries himself quite well.
DeleteSorry to say, but at first I thought the bread had gone bad; now, though, I wonder what green banana bread tatses like!
ReplyDeleteBob, it tastes of bananas. Surprised?
DeleteCats just want to have fun! Green bread?
ReplyDeletePat, she is young and likes to play, and the lads do play with her, but her favourite play time is in the morning when they are either asleep or rushing to go to work.
DeleteToilet paper seems to be a great toy fr cats 😀. I like Tin Tin and Snoopy.
ReplyDeleteSami,it was quite exciting to see Tin Tin as I gazed around after exiting the station.
