Along with Elephant's Child, River and others, here is my mix of photos this week.
Shortly into the new year we had a meal at this pub, up above the extremely busy Queens Way. Yes, I know it doesn't look busy but the cars come in a wave from the earlier traffic lights in five lanes in each direction with a tram in reserved track. There were many young ladies in their skimpy summer finery at the hotel, far outnumbering men. I think some men may have scored a friendly female companion for the evening. We were ushered to a quieter area and the meal was fine and in the company Hairdresser Friend and a mutual male friend, we had a fine old time. We had walked from his flat across the Upton Road overpass and it was rather warm that evening.
It was then the question arose about men using urinals, which I think I might have mentioned before, or using cubicles just for peeing. I stated I use cubicles so I can dry off drips with toilet paper afterwards. I looked at Hairdresser Friend who gave the other gay guy a quizzical glance, and he said he did the same. Maybe it's a gay thing? Always being prepared for an encounter. I don't know.
Work of the adult children in the home.
A very successful pot of petunias from a proper plant nursery, unlike the less than grand pansies I now have, bought at the big green shed. Give your support to small local plant nurseries, not the huge hardware chain.
On the south (Europe/America: north) side of this house and without any killer hot days, even in January the hydrangeas looked great, having avoided being fritzed.
These are old photos as Ray was with me when we visited Hairdresser Friend's studio in an old industrial building. If you can't read it, and I assume the safe was English made, the company has supplied safes to City Safe (London?), Bombay, Maple & Co, Selfridges, Chancery Lane, Harrods, Cornhill, Westminster Trust, Hull and Belfast.
The entrance to her photographic studio is very well protected by the heavy door. I didn't know the details of the building but here it is, https://www.artworksstkilda.com/ HDF told me the original purpose of the building but I've forgotten. I will check later.
This would be a rather unpruned crepe myrtle, I think.

I like the lemon yellow evening light in your 5th photo. Very arty.
ReplyDeleteJayCee, it was a weird lighting.
DeleteI always enjoy your Sunday Selections and this week is no exception. Thank you. Drying yourself makes sense to me. I wonder how common it is?
ReplyDeleteEC, well no one who uses a urinal.
DeleteI have seen a shoe scraper larger than that in Lake Tyrrell.
ReplyDeleteBut you didn't take a photo Roentare. It is ok. I do believe you.
DeleteI used to notice the three pink elephants at the Windsor Hotel on the way home from work. Has the area not been painted and smartened up in a few years?
ReplyDeleteHels, it is pleasant enough inside but I agree, the exterior is awful. What a colour! But I do like the elephants.
DeleteWhat does a boot scraper look like in your part of the world? The one pictures is pretty ordinary for here. I'll take a picture of our boot scraper for you.
ReplyDeleteDebby, for some reason I cannot remember. Maybe yours will remind me.
DeleteMaybe it's a gay thing, wiping the drip of urine off the end of your dick, but I have to say, I would appreciate it. Straight men usually leave dribbles of pee hither and yon. It's gross.
ReplyDeletePixie, what can I say than I agree with you.
DeleteThe Rainer Safe Company is really proud of its product!
ReplyDeleteYes Kirk, exports around the world and locally.
DeleteI have never seen petunias that dark, they're gorgeous. I like the golden evening light too. Urinals are stinky and should be phased out.
ReplyDeleteRiver, that's what you can find in a proper plant nursery. I am thinking about the name nursery though. Nowadays all the plants are brought in from elsewhere. They no longer 'nurse' seeds, seedlings, cuttings etc.
DeleteWhat a beautiful show you will have when the petunias bloom. Can't bet a proper nursery/garden centre.
ReplyDeleteQuite true Margaret, and you now have no vested interest, lol.
DeleteThe petunias are really attractive.
ReplyDeleteI love 'the children's' arrangements. It's fun to have the energy and imagination of young people in one's home.
JB, and I am a little envious of their energy and sense of fun.
DeleteYou could just go to Germany and become a Sitzpinkler.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I interpreted your: "Always being prepared for an encounter" a bit differently from others here as I did not interpret that as involving any concern for the state of the floor. All the same, nice of you to agree with Pixie.
MC, I had to check Sitzpinkler, and it was a thing here when I was young. I remember one of my uncle's referring to a fellow footy team mate as someone who sits down to pee, as females do.
DeleteI think everyone knew what I meant, but it could be open to interpretation. I have no doubt gay men take more care to not splash a floor, as well as mopping up drips on their dicks.
The thing is it doesn't really matter how careful people think they are being, floors will generally be splashed by gentlemen who stand to piss.
DeleteMaybe too much information, but this is the first I have heard of men choosing to wipe their member as you have related. Not that I have asked around on the subject. I can't say it comes up often.
MC, my sample size of two was rather small. At gay venues many men stand at urinals, so maybe it is not so general.
DeleteI have seen shoe brushes like that on cattle farms, good for cleaning the sides after you have stepped in "something!"
ReplyDeleteTP, I never saw them when I was young.
DeleteThose boot cleaners are fairly common around here--lots of mud, lots of outdoor dirty boot jobs too.
ReplyDeleteStrayer, I think we used to have models to scrape mud from the sole of your shoe, but I can't remember what they looked like.
DeleteThat hotel is a striking building, especially with those pink elephants on the roof! The safe label is interesting. That must have been a very high-profile company to get all those major contracts.
ReplyDeleteSteve, it certainly must have been, with a large market to the colonies, no doubt.
DeleteI should get a boot scraper, which never occurred to me before. Thanks for the idea. :) Your photos are great. I prefer shopping our family owned garden centers. Be well!
ReplyDeleteThanks Darla. The local centres are more expensive but I've found in this case, you very much get what you pay for.
DeleteI have never seen a boot scrapper except on tv. I guess they don't work well for snow and slush.
ReplyDeleteProbably not, Pat.
DeleteJohn does the same at home as you.
ReplyDeleteNot just a gay thing then Jackie.
