Year after year, our New Year's Day ABC 7am radio news tells us police are generally happy with the the NYE crowd behaviour.
As the radio news goes on throughout the day, we hear of stabbings, murders, assaults, illegal fireworks, fire bombings, arrest numbers, people injured by illegal fireworks, grass fires started by illegal fireworks, youth arrested for carrying illegal weapons, and one year when African heritage youth maraudered through the city with the intent to scare, if nothing worse. Where is the figure of how many women were raped on NYE?
But no matter, as the media department of our police force paint it all white, generally most were well behaved. Generally!
Got to keep the masses happy... don't spoil the party.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThere's always someone intent on spoiling the party! Wishing you the best of everything in 2025.
ReplyDeleteYour neck of the woods fared better than New Orleans.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. ~sigh~ We no longer go out at all for NYE celebrations. I have fond memories of comedy club shows followed by their hosted breakfast buffet. Best wishes, my dear.
DeleteOh yes. Not to mention the drownings and the car deaths. Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteGenerally. Nice final word on the subject. I always like the Stones song "Paint it Black".
ReplyDeleteGosh Strayer. I haven't heard that song for years. I love it.
DeleteThe illegal aerial fireworks have gotten out of hand in Hawaii. We do have a long culture tradition of fireworks for lunar New Year and religious celebrations and of course for New Year's. But the island has become an amateur fireworks show and bomb testing area twice a year around New Year's Eve and July 4th us Independence Day. Well, it's finally gotten out of hand. People were killed seriously injured and something will have to be done to prevent this kind of tragedy in the future. Fortunately the trade winds were blowing and blew all of that smoke out to sea. When the winds change. In a couple of days we will be getting VOG from the volcano on Hawaii Island. I shall retreat inside to air conditioning and wear my KN 95 mask outside to avoid the
ReplyDeleterespiratory issues that can come with breathing that junk. I still prefer Hawaii to anywhere else. Just hoping the trades come back soon. Best wishes Andrew!
Similar to here then Cloudia, except ours this time of the year started grass fires. They were quickly brought under control but potentially, great home damage could happen.
