Monday Mural

I'm linking with Sami and others for Monday's Mural.

Meet Pesto, a young penguin at Melbourne's aquarium.

You can read a little about pop star Katy Perry meeting the very large Pesto here, who is a nine month old king penguin and weighs 22kg, the combined weight of his parents.

Unfortunately with such a name, the next story in the newspaper list was Easy one-pot meals designed for weeknights. Please no. No adding Pesto to a pot.

This mural was painted last week and is found in Higson Lane in the city.

  1. Oh that is lovely! And of course we are all familiar with the famous gay penguins that have achieved notoriety in the past. This fellow is a little giant, isn't he! Thanks for sharing Andrew. Always a pleasure. Aloha and yes the juxtapositions on the page of a newspaper can be interesting indeed...

    1. Cloudia, I think the gay penguins have another chick to rear this year. Thank you.

  2. How could anyone not love a penguin, such fun to watch! Nice mural.

  3. A giant of a bird. Early explorers thought that young King Penguins were a different species because they are so different from their parents.
An unfortunate juxtaposition indeed but a great mural.

    1. Interesting fact EC. Yes, that's what happened because I googled pesto to find the newspaper story.

  4. This one's simply nice, not avant-garde or dark or mean or crazed; just sweet and nice.

    1. I am amused JayCee, and sadly I know the tune and I could singalong to the written lyrics.

    1. It had publicity Roentare, so I knew where to go. There were other murals I had not seen in the lane too, so I snapped away.

  8. The smaller penguins seem understandably in awe of that big guy in the middle. Great mural!

    1. Kirk, in spite of it being said it is just baby growth, I think it will be a large penguin.

  9. Pesto is a big boy at 22kg. Even the twins aren't that heavy. Yet.

    1. It is quite a heavy weight, River. The twins must be close to being too heavy to pick up.

    1. I'm sure Pesto will be fine JB. The aquarium is well respected and Pesto will have a good, if a somewhat unnatural life.

  12. Ohhh, what a cute mural, and of course cute penguins. I wonder if he's of a mix race, or how did he get so big? We have lots of fairy penguins or blue penguins in Penguin Island just off the suburb of Rockingham, south of Perth. Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Andrew.

    1. Fairy penguins and blue penguins are the same Sami? I didn't know. Thank you.

  13. Poor little bugger always looks as if he’s no idea what all the fuss is about.
Wasn’t there a campaign to lose the name ‘fairy’ and move to ‘little’ penguin.

    1. Cathy, indeed there was such push and I am not sure that it worked. But did you know they are also blue penguins?

  15. I think that Katy Perry should have been wearing a mask when meeting Pesto. After all, you never know what diseases these big international performers might be carrying.

    1. YP, and didn't we learn about international diseases in 2020! Travelling and performing musicians have many opportunities for close personal contact, so perhaps Katy should have been masked, and carrying a prophylactic with her.

    2. I can do even better Andrew and David! We have three common ostriches in London Zoo. One of them is called Mary so I guess the other two might be called Joseph and Jesus.

    3. Or they could be Peter, Paul and Mary.

Hey, it wasn't me riding the chair in the car park, but alcohol was involved.  I had been to the building's Christmas gathering barb...
