Monday Mural

Welcome to South Melbourne, as I join with Sami and others for Monday Mural. This very long mural features a number of aspects of one of Melbourne City's oldest suburbs. Our weekly shopping is in South Melbourne, at Aldi's and Woolworths, put on the Lotto, visit Dan's for supplies, and have brunch,  less than a kilometre from the city edge of the city.

While for decades a direct tram to South Melbourne from the south has been discussed, and featured in planning for our new underground railway line to open this September, I can't see it happening. I think I will be dead before we have a direct tram to South Melbourne, and a train to our international airport.

We can catch a 58 tram to Sturt Street and then either walk up a bit of hill to Clarendon Street or catch a 1 tram. But we really need the planned tram, along Park Street and turning right into Clarendon Street.

Later edit: Blogger has a bet each way, sometimes using the world dating system and sometimes using the US dating system. It does my head in. This was meant to be posted at 5am Eastern Australian Summer time on Monday morning. I mucked up.

  1. A cheerful mural depicting fruit veg and footie.
It seems strange that such a major city still does not have a decent rail link to its airport hub.

    1. JayCee, it was under construction last year, and even so it is far from ideal in that it will be too slow. Budgetary constraints have halted progress. A city of 5 million without a train to the airport? Go figure.

  2. That is a very good mural with the word Melbourne on it. I would need to find that one for sure

    1. Thanks Roentare. I know the area it is but not the street name.

  3. Why do you think South Melbourne AFL team moved to Sydney? After all they kept their same colours, same mascot and perhaps the same supporters. I think they wanted to go to Sydney for half the matches, perhaps hoping for more financial rewards. But when they moved totally, South Melbourne must have felt bereft.

    1. Hels, wasn't it to spread the VFL's new AFL identity interstate, to make more money and 'grow the brand'? If that is true, it has been a success. Yes, South Melbourne supporters were bereft, as were Fitzroy supporters with its move to Queensland.

  4. That's a very jolly mural. It must be quite cheery on a dull day.

    1. JB, I like the brightness, and yes, we do have dull days. We didn't see the sun today.

    1. TP, I try not to notice time differences but I am quite aware of them. Past tense for me might be future tense for others. At least I can tell them what their weather was, can't I?

    1. Strayer, it is cheerful and I expect a paid for mural at quite some cost.

  11. We saw a glitch in the timestamp from an Australian YouTube content creator just today. Now I can offer my husband a curious explanation. Thanks for sharing that tidbit and these amazing murals. Best wishes to you and yours, my dear.

    1. Darla, yes, if dates don't seem right it can be because of conflicting date systems. Unless it is important, I try not to focus on dates. Now stop being so sweet. There is a danger I might get to like you.

  14. Wonderful mural, very bright and cheerful. We need a train or tram to our airport too. It gets talked about, but never happens.

    1. River, it would cost a lot of money and with a quite adequate and quick bus service to your airport, as we used from the city, I can't see the financial figures per traveller stacking up. It could be on a luxury budget by the various governments who would pay for it.

  15. I thought it strange you hadn’t posted this morning, then noticed it came through last night.
That is a very long mural - big bright and boisterous!
And we see you as well - did you have company that day?

    1. Cathy, I guess you mean the shadow. I don't know what it was, human or not. I'm more concerned about how my jacket flared out and makes me look fat.

    1. Marie, they are certainly vibrant colours, and how awful the wall would look without the mural.
