Joining with Sami and others for Monday Mural.
A modest mural this week but about an important person.
If you head up the modest hill of Little Bourke Street in the city you will come to Amphlett Lane, named in honour of the late musician Chrissy Amphlett, front person of the band Divinyls. Chrissie was marvellously sexual, political, wicked and subversive.
Chrissy was diagnosed with MS in 2007, breast cancer in 2010 and she declared she was cancer free the following year. Because of the MS she was unable to receive the usual breast cancer treatment and sadly died at the age of 53 in her Manhattan apartment in 2013.
Nice mural and with a Dalmatian, too.
ReplyDeleteI think I can always get you JB with dog or cat photos.
DeleteA vibrant and talented woman. And taken too soon. I didn't know it was her MS that prevented cancer treatment. I expect that it was MS treatment rather than the disease itself - which says a lot about the effect that MS had on her.
ReplyDeleteWhat I was trying to say was that the dread disease must have had a dramatic and awful effect if she couldn't give up her MS medication even to treat cancer.
DeleteThanks for the later explanation EC. I take your point.
DeleteIt's been ten years?! What a tragic story. On a weird note, I just thought about someone I knew back in the 1980's who battled MS. What a horrible disease. Thank you for sharing this memorial.
ReplyDeleteDarla, as does the lovely EC above suffers from MS.
DeleteThe mural is rather cute.
ReplyDeleteRoentare, I thought so. Thanks.
DeleteI confess that I had never heard of her. A sad ending. I like the mural but what is the significance of the dogs?
ReplyDeleteJayCee, she was known to wear school girl uniforms, so I guess there is a connection to the dogs too.
DeleteTalented young woman. Linda Ronstadt has been diagnosed with a form o f Parkinson's. She is a brave woman.
ReplyDeleteI had not hear that Anon. Such a shame.
DeleteI love street art. I wish we had more in our little town.
ReplyDeleteMy city in particular seems to attract street artists, Bob. They do add to the city.
DeleteI know the Divinyls best for "I Touched Myself". Shame such an energetic performer succumbed to such energy-sapping illnesses.
ReplyDeleteKirk, I am pleased you know the track. Fifty three is a seriously young age to die through ill health.
DeleteI vaguely remember the Divinyls, they weren't played much by my kids. I couldn't understand half of the words and thought I might look up the lyrics, but probably won't. It is sad that she suffered and died so young though.
ReplyDeleteRiver, maybe I know the lyrics too well but I found her singing to be quite clear. Often enough, I don't.
DeleteI remember, sad. The Divinyls had a few good hits that appealed to me.
ReplyDeleteMargaret, I wasn't devoted but I did like their top songs.
DeleteI remember hearing about her death. Wow, already been 10 years! Cute mural and love the dogs. Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Andrew.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sami, and nice to have you back after your camping.
DeleteGreat mural The dogs are gorgeous So sad what she went through.
ReplyDeleteMarja, it was sad. All dogs are lovely, hey.
DeleteI rather like street art that deliberately includes existing features or what might be called street "furniture".
ReplyDeleteI think I get what you saying YP.
DeleteWhat will your memorial mural show?
ReplyDeleteMaybe me standing while overlooking a nice sea or country valley scene. You didn't expect me to say, standing next to a train?
DeleteThe mural has a bit of a Banksy feel to it.
ReplyDeleteI see what you mean Hels. The simple can be good.
DeleteSo sad but the mural is a nice.
ReplyDeleteQuite sad Pat. Thanks.
