We met 16 year old niece Jo at the station and spent several hours with her town, and an hour or so back home. What a day. We were exhausted. A burst water main in the city saw Swanston Street trams out of action but we worked our way around that. It was a good day, but nice to have a drink before and after dinner.
You can't tell it is cheap sherry served from a Waterford crystal decanter but that is exactly what it is.
Scotch and nibbles after dinner must mean all food groups have been covered.
You have obviously managed your Five-a-Day then.
ReplyDeleteIndeed JayCee. R was too tired to cook so we ordered pizza, so perhaps covered more food groups.
DeleteScotch? Sherry? Neither of them are to my taste. Love the decanter though.
ReplyDeleteEC, I can't believe we paid $200 for the decanter in the early 80s, and that was duty free.
DeleteAnything served from such a beautiful decanter is going to taste good - the eyes deceive the mouth. You've got some stamina, shopping with a 16-year-old girl!
ReplyDeleteJB, I noticed how quickly she was inclined to walk, and then slowed down to match our speed. We looked after her many times as a baby, as a toddler and pre teen. She respects us and we don't expect a great connection when we are of our ages and she is a very smart and theatrical sixteen year old.
DeleteGreat way to end a day, I say!
ReplyDeleteYep Bob. Helps to make sense of the world, or not.
DeleteThat is a good fine moment you shared.
ReplyDeleteIt was Roentare. I think we are already too boring for a sixteen year old and I am sure we will be when she is seventeen.
DeleteI love a nice glass of sherry before dinner. Will skip the scotch though. You deserved the 2 drinks.
ReplyDeletePat, did I say we only had one glass of sherry and one glass of Scotch? 😉
DeleteI was given just such a decanter as a wedding present. I have passed it on to my daughter in law who loves all things bling.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that style is called a ship's decanter and the heavy base stops it moving around in high seas.
Merlot, I did know that but I have so forgotten it being a ship's decanter.
DeleteOh, bless you on sharing your time. Socializing exhausts me. lol I liked learning from sparklingmerlot about the decanter. Fascinating stuff. Be well!
ReplyDeleteDarla, we both slept like logs last night.

DeleteAfter a day shopping with a teenager, did it even matter if the alcohol was cheap? Gads. You earned that!
ReplyDeleteI reckon we did earn it Debby.
DeleteWell, I'd say whatever was at hand, you earned a goodly snort of it.
DeleteLooks good to me. Shopping does tires one out sometimes.
ReplyDeleteMargaret, I am pretty surprised at how well we did. I hope it was a bit of one off. It was really hard work.
DeleteDon't the nibbles usually come before the meal then dessert after?
ReplyDeleteRiver, they should do. We don't have dessert and the snack was prepared by me, which we don't normally have after dinner either. If R made the snack, it would present much more nicely.
DeleteIf I ever had sherry it was a long time ago, so probably can't tell the cheap stuff from the expensive.
ReplyDeleteKirk, as I say, there is no point feeding champagne to pigs. Something like that.
DeleteSounds like it was time for a nap or two.
ReplyDeleteTP, I don't nap and the other party has a day time sleep rather than a nap.
DeleteTravel and Andrew
ReplyDeletePerfect timing! Saturday's paper said the adults who have short naps during the day maximise their IQ on tests. Napping is therefore something to be proud of.
Hels, I don't nap and R has an afternoon sleep rather than a nap. We are dumb.
DeleteWell, the Waterford makes it classy. :)
ReplyDeleteSomething had to save the day, Steve.
DeleteIt's all in the aesthetics Andrew and you've nailed it.
ReplyDeleteXO

Thank you WWW.
DeleteMini open face cheese sandwiches. Nice. Probably tasted better with some cheap Sherry involved.
ReplyDeleteJust dry savoury biscuits Strayer. Yes, good snack food to go with a drink.
