Wednesday Bits

Does #47 ever visit the west coast of the US?

Phyllis bought some flavoured maple syrup and didn't like it. You need real maple syrup Phyllis, Queens, from Canada. OMG, it was AU$10 for 275ml/9.3oz. That's CA$10.00 too, US$7.00, GB£5.00, €6.00. This seems a bit excessive to me. I don't remember it being so expensive.

Kosov's parents sent this cat hut for Jass, but she's never used it. She must have heard I was going to take it to the charity shop, and so has used it a couple of times in the last week. While I was having my annual hearing test today, Kosov sent me a clip of Jass in the hut.

I don't normally buy mixed flowers for home, but a week after Mother's Day, this bunch was 75% off the full price, so $8. They have lasted a week, and still seem ok.

"Kosov, I don't like this gory dinosaur display". I need to make my opinion sound stronger.

I went to the bank yesterday to sort out money to pay for my new car, and then get a bank cheque. As staff was ready to print the cheque, I said stop! I realised the figure I was given to pay did not allow for the $1000 deposit I had paid. I returned today for the cheque with the corrected amount to pay. I pick up the car on Friday. It seems like Kosov can come with me, but Phyllis is working.

My car still has the scratches on the side. The first quote was outrageous and where I went for the second quote never got back to me. Through the books, the car repair would cost $4200 I think. The new car business said, although your car is in excellent condition and low mileage, it will cost us about $1500 to get the scratches repaired, and so that devalues the trade in value. I did get a better trade in price than I thought I would. I'll take some pics of my current car tomorrow and the new one once I pick it up. Although a different colour, the body is the same shape.

Later edit: Kirk mentioned that Jass wasn't in the cathouse. I was sent a video of Jass in the cathouse. She went in late today, so here is a photo of Jass in the cat house.

  1. I bought a small bouquet at our local grocer due to a discount. It saddened me to watch an employee scan one bunch after another and dump them in a cart for later disposal; I suppose corporate would suspect theft otherwise. Oh, well. Best wishes on both vehicles.

  2. Car buying has always seemed stressful for me. I think I'll stick with the bus.

  3. If the cut flowers lasted a week, you did very well. It is disappointing when beautiful flowers in the centre of your dining room table quickly wilt away :(

  4. The picture of Jass in the hut must be a different picture than what's shown here.

  5. I have often noticed that some cats don't take a liking to the commercial toys or accessories we buy for them. I have heard of cats not using the "scratch pad", instead it preferrs to scratch the sofa!

  6. I am running my car into the ground as it's trade in value is worthless. The decision will then be whether to buy another one or manage with public transport. Not sure I can afford a new one. Look forward to seeing what you have bought.

  7. Queen Maple Syrup has been $10 for a long time, I only ever bought that one when I was making pancakes for the kids years ago, when it was a bit cheaper and later when making pancakes just for myself, here in this home. I have given up eating pancakes now and still have a bit of syrup left, I may use it instead of honey to make a marinade for chicken.

  8. Money transactions can be stressful - I'm glad you're not out of pocket.

  9. Interesting about the pussy.
Prices for goods has gone up sometimes I forget. I worked it out that the average price for groceries is about $6.50 for each item but of course it depends on what you buy - but that is my average at the moment.
Looking forward to seeing your new car.

  10. I did a quick search, a 32 ounce bottle of Maple Syrup at Whole Foods (house brand) is 24.42 or .7631 per ounce, or the equivalent of just over $7 US for the bottle you had. If I buy at my local farmers market, from the people who made it, it is a little more expensive.

    1. I would guess that is about the price we pay.

  11. I never did take a liking to Maple Syrup tho my kids loved it. Very Canadian. A friend would tap my maple tree in my last house for it. I bought an expensive house for my daughter's last cat and she never used it. Odd creatures, cats.

  12. Cats are like that; they get a toy or a new house and ignore it until you decide to get rid of it and suddenly it's all they want.

  13. Jass does seem quite cozy in that cat house, I must say. I like the dinosaurs! Real maple syrup is quite expensive compared to the fake stuff.

  14. Jass is beautiful, Andrew! Cats have a mind of their own and they make sure we know it! LOL!

    1. Pat, at 500 ml, that sounds somewhat cheaper. I thought yours would be much cheaper.
