Views

My apartment has good views, slightly north east, majorly to the east, to the south east and south, even the south west.

But my neighbour HH on the other side of the building, has fantastic views. There are advantages and disadvantages to both apartments. My apartment balcony gets blasted by cold and gusty southerly winds, while HH gets blasted by hot northerly winds.

I took a few photos of the views from her balcony. The first looks more like a view from my balcony...maybe.

City views, with the war memorial, Shrine of Remembrance, in The (King's) Domain in the foreground.

The most prestigious boys school in Melbourne, The Church of England's Melbourne Boys' Grammar School. Some of the boys will go on to great careers, and perhaps some will become politicians. It is not unknown for some them to become very well spoken drug users and/or homeless.

HH still has the easterly views I have.

And she can see down St Kilda Road.

  1. Oh, those views are pretty spectacular.
Shame on those posh boys for squandering their advantages in life!

    1. By becoming politicians, Jay Cee. I so agree.

    2. You don't have to be posh to go to a private school in Australia, an egalitarian country. I went to a private school and I wouldn't use the word posh, better mannered and better behaved maybe than at a state school, so I believe from teachers who've taught at both.

    3. Better manners and better speech too. More respect for others also.

  2. Same thing here. Only the corner units have balconies, we do. We face north-west so get the great sunsets, but the view is rather industrial. The unit that faces north-east gets the city view with the CN Tower and fireworks. The two south units get the lake, which I hear people say it isn't worth it as it is black at night. I also notice that the south units often have their blinds shut as the sun blasts in the mornings.

    1. I like that you have a view of the expressway, being able to see accidents, and to check if it isn't congested before you drive on it. Yes, generally lake and sea views are quite useless at night. HH gets killer sunshine all year with hers facing north and and east. I only get direct sun in the warmer months, ending at noon summer time on the longest day. I get a sliver for a few minutes on the shortest day.

  3. Do either of you have a sea view? That's what I'd like best.

    1. Jackie doesn't but I have not so great sea views. I'll take some photos for a future post, and then you will remember as it has appeared in past posts.

  4. If your neighbour has a flat of the same size and location as you but has heaps of great views, do they pay more for that privilege? I would :) The shrine looks great, and the StKilda Rd trees look delightful.

    1. Yes Hels, that would be part of pricing for apartments. But if you are looking to buy an apartment here, you only see the views from that apartment and not others, which may be better.

  5. It would be hard to choose which side to live on, based on your description.

    1. MM, while my views are inferior, they are still quite good. I prefer the layout of my apartment, with a hallway, whereas her is just a rectangle living, dining, kitchen area, with the bedrooms off to one side.

    2. So yours is more like a house? I would prefer that too.

  6. Very evocative - there are pros and cons of every place, aren't there?

    1. Debby, I don't do dear friends as neighbours to spend much time with.

  8. Very nice views. We have a good view of the railway track that runs nearby.

  9. Good views for both of you, no view of the sea which doesn't matter as long as you don't look directly into a brick wall and nothing else.

    1. The weather is very pleasant Kirk, although becoming a bit too warm over the next couple of days. After 24 or so years, I am never bored with the views.

  11. I love the views. We are on the 3rd floor, with a park like view, but limited in distance

    1. Pat it is nice. You can be too high to see action on the ground. while I'm above the tenth level, I think 10,11 and 12 would be ideal.

  14. I used to work in downtown Toronto in buildings like that with Lake Ontario to the South of us. Dizzying being in my office with the floor to ceiling window gazing down to the ants on the street from the 55th floor.
Always felt slightly queasy and would work with my back to it.

    1. WWW, was it in a Toronto where the man strength tested the windows, and the second time the window broke and he fell to his death.

    1. Thanks Amy. I do get that funny feeling in my legs at times if I am near the balcony edge and I think of my phone falling out of my hand.

About a week ago I came across this video. I immediately wondered why I had not heard of this? How come there weren't alerts on my phone...
