For some reason tonight I wanted to watch a disaster movie. Clearly not Towering Inferno, which I did see when it was released, before I lived in a tower, and I've seen Poseidon. Perhaps I should have watched Snakes on a Plane, or rewatched the original Jaws. This is possibly to avoid hearing anymore about our own Australian disaster of a couple of days ago. I feel emotionally drained.
I consulted the oracle, aka Google, for a good disaster film, and I chose 2012. What a load of crap. I so want the featured family to die, and soon. The noise and loudness of the film is horrible, and I've turned it right down to a level where I cannot really hear the inane dialogue, but still it is loud.
Better that I again watched Shelley die on a ship.
I'm in a bit of a mood tonight. Can you tell?
When I need a break from reality, I watch sci-fi.
ReplyDeleteSorry, would not work for me.
DeleteIt reads like the kind of weary irritation that comes from being emotionally overloaded
ReplyDeleteYes, you could describe it as such, Roentare.
DeleteI can feel your pain. I am extremely stressed right now and want to curl up into a ball and hibernate.
ReplyDeleteReally JC? We have to work to keep our mental health in a good state. Remove triggers, to start.
DeleteNever ever ever watch a disaster film. Even if it is a good film, the impact on your brain will be disastrous.
ReplyDeleteHels, they don't worry me. I watch a number of train crash investigations where lives have been lost, but I still use trains.
DeleteWeve been not watching the "rolling "coverage, thank goodness the cricket starts today.
ReplyDeleteCheryl, I would go from from tears to boredom if I did that, but it is good that you can distract yourself, without forgetting.
DeleteHow about the first Airport (1970)? Worth watching just to see Helen Hayes stowaway on that plane.
ReplyDeleteis that the one based on the book by whatshisname? Arthur Hailey.
DeleteKirk, I think I saw that, but I have no memory of it. I was trying not to watch an older film.
DeleteChill out Andrew! Why the **** did you want to watch a disaster film anyway? Try following "Skote Outdoors" on YouTube.
ReplyDeleteIt looks ok to watch. They seem to live in a very challenging location.
DeleteI was in a stinking bad mood last night and I blamed a difficult interaction with my mother but maybe there were other factors.
ReplyDeleteI also ate a very large piece of cheesecake. I think we are all on a reassessment train right now
Kylie, we all have such days. I wish I'd had cheesecake last night.
DeleteI always thought Snakes on a Plane was comedy, though I've never seen it. I remember liking Poseidon when I saw it. Towering Inferno too.
ReplyDeleteRiver, I don't know. I thought it was serious. I remember the fix for the burning tower, and it could work in my building.
DeleteYes I can tell! :)
ReplyDeleteWel the original Jaws is not awesome anymore. Poseidon is not the same anymore but then is anything the same anymore - no! Andrew.
Today we visited a friend and did a lot of laughing and talking, the day before we had two other friends for lunch. A good break from such sadness.
Margaret, some films do hold up but I don't think there are too many. Spending time with friends and having a laugh is a good antidote to the sadness.
DeleteI find the original Jaws movie, very funny in this day and age.
ReplyDeleteTP, I watched some it last night and it doesn't hold up very well. It actually seemed a bit camp to me, with quite a bit of overacting. I did not feel any fear, as I did back in the day.
DeleteMy favorite disaster movie is "The Day After Tomorrow", seen it many times. I feel the same way sweetie.
ReplyDeletePixie, I kept seeing that as a frequent recommendation. I don't know why I didn't give it a go.
DeleteI have that on a usb, I'll have to rewatch as I don't remember it.
DeleteI saw "2012" when it came out and I don't remember a thing about it, but I seem to recall that the effects were good. But nothing tops "Earthquake" in my book -- just the right balance of drama and camp.
ReplyDeleteSteve, yes I will grant that about the special effects, for a 13 year old film.
DeleteI don't think I ever saw 2012 but sounds really dumb and difficult to watch its so dumb.
ReplyDeleteStrayer, that's a fair summary.
DeleteApologies to Debby for accidentally deleting her comment. She wrote: "But the big question....have the boys been allowed to put their tree up? How is Jass handling that?"
DeleteDebby, have a close look at the tree photo in this post, and see what is entwined in the tree. She only been up twice since, both on the same day. The tree is ok, but of course not as good as Ray's decoration of smaller trees. https://fromthehighrise.blogspot.com/2025/12/feline-friday.html
Hi Andrew, I have seen The Towering Inferno, and I really liked the movie!
ReplyDeleteLinda, it was good, but for obvious reasons, perhaps not one for me to see now.
Delete~hugs~
ReplyDeleteHi Andrew, thank you so much for visiting me and for your kind comment on my blog today. The child you saw in the video was part of the Gag. Notice that a lady left the girl with a lady, who was not part of the Gag.
ReplyDeleteLinda, of course she was. I was thinking about it later and it really would have been terrible cruelty to the innocent child. Thanks for the reassurance.
DeleteWe all get in a mood at times. I am really trying hard to be more relaxed.........I have no complaints (other than a zillion stupid ones) but I can still get down.
ReplyDeleteJackie, mercifully brief in my case.
