Cat hunting and catching a train

Phyllis went out sometime around midnight last night to 'escort' Kosov home. I was in bed at 11 and I didn't hear him leave. He said the bus didn't turn up, I expect he was late and missed it, so came back home, to Jass created havoc. He told me this morning she had knocked down a sword from their bedroom window ledge and a plate on the lounge room shelves, and when he returned she was sitting on top of  the fridge, which I've never see her do.

What I noticed when I got up, were small clumps of her fur all over the place, evidence that she had been running around, and her being nervous. It wasn't a little fur, it was a lot.

I do remember that when I got up in the morning, the balcony door was slightly open, not enough for her to get out. It is too heavy for her to move, but my guess is an insect or more than one came in and she had being in pursuit, and she had been very excited. She hid for most of the day under the lounge chair.

The new mayor of New York City is very pro public transport, yet flew to meet #47 in Washington DC, when the train trip is only three hours, zooming along at 255/160. How disappointing. What could have a been a positive media story for him, was not.

Later: My guess was correct. Jass had been chasing a bug. I don't know why he didn't tell me in the first place. There was an insect wing sticking out of her poo the next morning.

    1. Boud, I refuse to bow to a cat. I absolutely refuse, indubitably. This is my place. I will decide what happens here.

  2. When people in authority say they are pro-public transport, they probably mean for other people.

    1. Unfortunately, while I really like trains and trams, the only public transport within walking distance from my home are buses :(

    2. Hels, yes, very often that is the case. Your bus service is wasn't it once was.

  3. The fast train can go that fast, for a few miles where the tracks are good enough. There are hourly flights on two different airlines, that take about 45 minutes in each direction, shuttle service. The USA really needs to invest in upgrading rail beds and tracks, and in creating dedicated high speed passenger lines.

    1. TP, yes I guessed that. If city centre to city centre is your journey, I think a 1.5 to 2 hour trip would compete with airlines. I would certainly choose a no fuss three hour train trip than a flight, but then no doubt the Mayor of New York has a very smooth path at the airports.

    1. Bob, I don't and I am surprised they noticed, but at least they attend to the litter trays daily.

  5. Ha! Jass not only chased the bug but CAUGHT the bug!

When I lived in NYC I used to take the Metroliner (and later the Acela) to DC all the time. It was a very pleasant trip, and quite fast.

    1. Steve, it is a no brainer for a seriously high speed train, say 400 km/h. Build it and they will come. Would similar between LA and San Francisco be viable too? Oh wow, 5.5 hours by car, 11 hours by train.

  6. Angel used to skitter around after a bug whenever one got into the house, usually a cricket, but never caused any damage as I didn't have anything that could be knocked off anything else.
Our politicians are spruiking public transport too, yet still get around the city in their fancy cars and fly around the country instead of taking buses or trains, mostly because many places no longer have a train line...
Have you heard anything at all from or about our chocolate loving Tasmanian? Seems to have dropped off the face of the earth again.

    1. River, I wouldn't expect politicians to catch regional or interstate trains unless money is spent on what lines we do have to improve them to a good standard. You don't even have regional lines. One to Victor Harbour would work.
I have an old Facebook account, where she was a FB friend and I receive notifications when she posts, which does often enough, but I no longer have my log in details for the account.

    1. Rather observant of one of them, Darla. I don't know that would be looking so closely.

    1. Linda, I've seen her chase a couple of flies and catch them. She would be a very good hunter if let loose.

  9. Jass spent most of the day under a lounge chair after catching and eating the bug? Insect wings might not agree with her.

    1. The hunting seemed to give her a serious mental disturbance. I think she was resting, and hiding from attention by Phyllis.
