Patricia Routledge has died at the age of 96. One can't grieve too much over a peaceful death at that age. What a trooper she was, from theatre including musicals, to film and tv.
Most of us will remember her from Keeping up Appearances, where she played Hyacinth Bucket. Gay men straight away picked up on the humour, and used lines like, 'Don't brush against my walls', "Would you like your coffee in a hand painted periwinkle cup?" "Best you have a beaker". "How much Sheriden? Talk to your father." "Mind the pedestrian, Richard", as someone opened their front door.
Of course I need a Hyacinth clip to add to this post.

She had a wonderful singing voice when she was in musical comedy, great contralto. You can probably find her singing Rugged Cross on YouTube. I think she sang in the Hetty Wainwright detective series. A long and terrific life.

She was a very talented person and had a beautiful operatic voice. I liked her in the Alan Bennett works and especially remember her as the hospital patient, adjusting and adapting to her diminishing circumstances. It was very touching.

An great talent, and a very long life. I have the entire TV series on DVD, maybe it is time for a marathon of watching it.

An amazing talent. I particularly admired her off-key renditions of opera, an extraordinary feat as she was an opera singer and that's extremely difficult. Her Talking Heads appearances were amazing and showed her full range of acting ability.

I think that the thing I loved about her was that she lived her life. Made her own choices and offered no excuses or apologies.
