Feline Friday

You are all dying to know how Jass has settled in. No? The girl likes the boys, with Phyllis being second in line, after Kosov. I am third on the tree.

Official portrait photo of the High Rise Queen Jass wearing her regal purple hat.

Haz I settled in and feeling relaxed? She keeps sitting on the warm chair that I have left. I can change lounge chairs, but not my computer chair. I metaphorically kick her off.

What tv show is this, wonders Jass.

I'm a girl cat and I need to feed my kittens. This interests me.

Food, close by.

I can catch food.

"I don't like the boiled and cooled water from my bowl. I like the chlorinated and fluoridated water straight from the tap best." That the rule that she isn't allowed on kitchen benches seems to be ignored. No one told Jass this important hygiene point. I pick her up and put her down, but no one else does.

Oldest Niece's cat Trixie, rather like Jass.

One week has passed and today Jass will visit a vet nurse to check that her spey wound has healed nicely. It has, and that she is thriving. She is due a flu vax too, so I hope that can be done at the time.

The shelter suggested Jass could come down with a cold once she left the shelter. She has. Kosov thinks she is dying and must be rushed to a vet hospital. She has sneezed a few times and made coughing noises.

Ondrewww, she is lethargic during the day and sleeps a lot.
Yes, Kosov, that is what cats do, and she just jumped up onto the bench, so that doesn't indicate lethargy.
Ondrewwww, she is unsettled and awake at night.
Yes Kosov, that's because she has been sleeping during the day and cats are nocturnal animals.
Ondrewwww, there is muck running from her eye.
Yes Kosov. I know the experience well. She has a cold and that is to be expected.
Ondrewwww, her poo smells bad.
Yes Kosov. Cat poo smells bad.
Ondrewwww, I am worried about her health. I've never had responsibility for a living creature.

I hugged Kosov and told him not to be a silly duffer and not to worry, and to stop being a hypochondriac on behalf of Jass. He lightened up then.

I talked on. We had three cats, one uncontrollable and killed by a car, the other two dying of old age. I kind of know about cats. Trust me Kosov. If I judge she needs medical treatment, I will take her straight away.

Apparently a cat harness with a pretty pink bow has been ordered from Temu. Jass may then visit 'the outside world'.

I wouldn't be dead for quids.

    1. Do it Roentare. I still stand by my advice to get a male cat, desexed of course, and kittens are a bother, however amusing they are. Don't leave it too long. You want to be able to outlive your cat.

  5. I'm not sure who will bring more amusement: Jass or the boys' reactions to her.

  6. Look how white she is in front! That wasn't apparent in your earlier post.

  7. I see you have already lost the battle re jumping up - especially in food-related areas. If the lads won't co-operate you will be stuck with that forever.

I had a cat for 18 years and after establishing the principle quite early never had much trouble with it - the only [ok only known] infraction was when he had not been fed and a the remains of a cooked chicken had been left out on a plate on the dining area table.

It helped that he wasn't much of a jumper anyway (the neighbouring cats he got on with well with over the years were a type: cats which were better jumpers than he and so not deterred by his fluffily enhanced size). We did allow a specific exception after he spontaneously discovered the kitchen window as an escape route from my nephew, aged 3 or 4. This required a traverse of the bench underneath but he never deviated from that, and then we had a kind of cat-door which was convenient for us.

  8. Wow! Those photos of Jass are really tempting me to get one for myself. It's a long time since I have had one. She has settled well and truly in your home. Great to see this lovely post!

  11. I'm so glad this new roommate has joined you! That's wonderful. Yes, you do seem to have a very good sense of caring for cats. I hope we'll see her many, many more times. Aloha, Andrew

  12. Queen Jass really does look good, wearing her regal purple hat. And her face looks more than regal... almost snooty :)

  13. Oh, I love it!!! Beautiful kitty Jass!!! Love her purple crown, too, and Kosov's overprotection of her.

  14. You boil water for her? Lola gets hers from the tap straight into her bowls, and her poo smells like what she eats and the smell disappears quickly. If it doesn't maybe change her diet. I found 'Whiskas" notorious for bad breath and stinky farts. I have her litter tray out in the enclosed back porch which helps but the enclosure is mostly shadecloth so it gets pretty cold out there which I find when I scoop out the tray every morning. Jass look like she has settled nicely, with three people to attend to her and a TV to watch.

  17. She has settled in made herself at home very fast, that is a good sign.

  18. Thank you for the grins and giggles. Be well!

  19. That conversation between you and Kosov made me laugh. I have never had a cat who jumps on counters. I would not like it at all.

  20. Lol, I see Jass is being spoiled by all :) My cats never jumped on the kitchen counters, but they loved any chair that we vacated of course. One of them, Fluffy used to love drinking water from the bathroom basin while I brushed my teeth in the morning. The rest of the day he would drink from their water bowl. They all have their quirks.
