Icelandic architecture

What do you know about Iceland? I don't know much. It's cold but not as cold as Greenland. It has volcanoes. Over the years, I have learnt a little about Iceland from bloggers.

Yorkshire blogger Tasker walked in Iceland in his younger years. https://taskerdunham.blogspot.com/2021/07/walking-in-iceland-1-to-reykjavik.html

Travel Penguin in Washington has visited twice, and would like to revisit. https://travelpenguin.blogspot.com/2025/07/foodie-friday-what-i-learned-in-iceland.html

Most recently the country was visited by Jackie and John from Toronto, and while Jackie's account of the trip and photos were marvellous, this photo really grabbed me.

Hallgrimskirkja Church in Reykjavik is an absolutely stunning piece of modern architecture. You can see more of Jackie's inside and outside photos at https://junkboattravels.blogspot.com/2025/06/iceland-day-3-reykjavik.html I urge you to take a look.

  3. All I know about that area is that Iceland is green and Greenland is ice. Also I never want to go there. Our Australian winters are all the cold I can stand, and even that's too much some days.

  4. It's modern but to my architecturally untrained eyes glances backwards at what came before. I like that.

  5. I hopped over to look - my impression is that Iceland is a lot more colourful than I realised.

  6. There is an elevator to the top, and a two story observation area around the bells at the top. It is really worth the visit. If you live in North America or western Europe, sign up for IcelandAir's email specials, they have some really great packages in spring and fall. On our most recent trip, we booked hotels around the south west of the country, and didn't go into Reykjavik. We have actually been there three times (four if you count changing planes in the airport this year) and hope to go back at least once more.

  8. I also visited Iceland about 10 years ago and blogged about it at the time. https://jamesobrien.id.au/tag/iceland/ (the three most recent posts are not specifically about the trip, but one is a movie review I LOVED my experiences there and would highly recommend it.
