Monday Mural

Sami is away in Arab territory, so I am not joining her this week for Monday Mural.

I don't know of any bird that looks like this black one (wattle bird?), but the other is sort of like an Australian kookaburra.

  1. I asked Professor G and he says it could be a Currawong.
Australian birds are quite exotic to me.

    1. Currawongs have a heavier, straight beak, much like a crow or magpie.

    2. As a comment below reminded me JayCee, the currawong has a straight beak.

  2. I wonder if a city mural could add the distinctive sound of the kookaburra. Then it could be instantly Identified.

    1. Hels, all murals of birds should have the appropriate noises at the push of a button.

  3. Definitely a wattle bird. And the other owes quite a lot to the kookaburra. Welcome back - and I hope your few days away were lovely.

  4. Yes, wattlebird and kooka. Love them but love the parrots more.

  8. Beautiful murals and so colourful too. I checked my bird book and it does look very similar to a wattle bird, the dot of red on the face indicates a red wattle bird. There are other types, yellow wattlebirds, brush wattlebirds and "little" wattlebirds that appear to have no colourations.

  11. I once knew a woman called Muriel - Muriel Stonehewer. As far as I know, there's no Muriel mural anywhere.

    1. Alison, while our forests lack colour, our birds don't.

    1. Steve, it is surprising that it hasn't been tagged. Maybe it's quite new.
