Sparks, a bump and a foursome

I am not sure where these clips were first published, and so I cannot credit them. Claim them as yours if you will.

The Gold Coast railway line was suspended after this moron made damage, with quite a good electric flash display.

Sydney reintroduced trams in 1997 with this model. While it looks old fashioned, the mostly Australian made tram and its sisters were retired long before the normal lifespan of tram, say 30 years. It is a pity the video is cut short. Clearly the tram derailed as it left I guess the terrific Sydney Tram Museum shed.

The annual NSW Hunter Valley steam train race exceeded itself this year.

  1. What is that truck pulling that hit the overhead lines? I can't tell.

  3. Although Sydney made a silly agreement to replace its trams with stinky clumsy buses, its streets were never straight and flat like Melbourne. Thank goodness their trains are successful.

  8. Love the steamfest and wouldn't mind seeing it one day, right after I win lotto maybe. The old tram looked nice, wide and roomy inside? I think today's trams are too narrow, people get crammed in like sardines.

    1. River, there is something about the interior of trams. While the track gauge is standard, the bodies seem narrow. I would guess if the interior width is checked against other trams, it would a few centimetres less.

    1. Margaret, probably best viewed in the clip rather than in person, although it would be nice to stand on an overhead bridge and be overcome with steam as the trains pass by.

    2. Ray used to do that when he was a youngster in Newcastle, England.

    3. Yes, would have to be up high to see them coming fast, what a sight to see - Ray was lucky to have seen the racing of the trains.

Aids for the ageing

I was in Port Melbourne and there is a rare shop there, a Reject Shop. They used to be everywhere. It is somewhat like a $2 shop/£1 shop. I ...
