To put it frankly, my desk chair is buggered. It has only lasted a few year. It had a weight limit of 100kg and Ray at around 90kg and dropping down into the chair probably did some damage. The desk chair that proceeded it was high quality and lasted around 25 years.
While my furniture may be old and dated, it is all in a good condition. I have looked but I can't find anything that would be a good replacement. I did really need to do something about the disintegrating chair.
I had done some online and physical visiting to inspect chairs. I made a decision, for better or worse. A nice young man carried the chair to my car and helped me load it, and the new mat. Balanced on top, I used the shopping jeep to get it up from our garage, and then disassembled all the packages.
Phyllis tried the new chair and then the old one and proclaimed he preferred the old one. Dipshit! While within a week when I am about to become an old age pensioner (birthday gifts are welcome if they are shockingly expensive), I am pleased I can still do an Allen key assembly. I kinda missed the arguing that used to happen when Ray and I used to assemble something.
Fancy chair ... Carlos and I bicker the most when we're putting something together,
ReplyDeleteBob, it must be the human condition.
DeleteI hope the new chair is comfortable and gives good service. It's important to be comfortable.
ReplyDeleteIt is comfortable JB and I am not blaming my stronger neck pain today on the chair. I think the chair will see me out, but then I've said that about cars before and they didn't.
DeleteNice chair! You need a good one for blogging. And early Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteDeb, yes, some would suggest I spend too much time sitting on the chair but it is rare that it is for more than fifteen minutes at a time.
DeleteSuch a smart chair. I do hope you don't spill any curry sauce on that chic grey upholstery, you (not yet retirement age) young whippersnapper.
ReplyDeleteJayCee, yes, no more eating anything potentially messy when on the chair. Fabric is less forgiving than plastic.
DeleteIt is looking good. We argue about assembly too. And recently had several arguments about the installation of a printer. The instructions (on line and paper version) were woeful and it was NOT an intuitive process.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday in advance.
EC, I remember battling against every printer we've ever had, maybe half a dozen or more. While the printers are vastly superior to what was around in the 1990s, why can't they just be plug in and they work? By arse or class, we always succeeded.
DeleteMy printers plug in and work, I attach the usb cord to the laptop which recognises a new device and asks me "do I trust this device?" I click on yes and it's good to go.
DeleteMy chair is pretty worn out too. It takes a great effort to assemble these furnitures these days
ReplyDeleteGet a new one, Roentare. For you, it would be tax deductible, I'm sure.
DeleteVery satisfying when a job turns out easier than expected.
ReplyDeleteTasker, I really didn't know what to expect. Worst case, I would have need help. My tenant Philip is smart in this area, as is my neighbour.
DeleteThat is a very nice looking chair. I am quite envious and now wonder if I need a new, pretty chair:)
ReplyDeletePixie, the sticker shock was strong, but I am so pleased I bought it. It looks and feels like it is well made, unlike our last one.
DeleteI hope you have already applied for the OAP - it can take months to be processed. You could advertise yourself as a putter together of chairs for a small sum in the meantime.
ReplyDeleteMerlot, I did in August, using a third party who I have to pay. Apart from one visit to Centrelink, it has been painless. Two weeks after my birthday I will receive my first payment and at some point, hopefully earlier, I will receive the concession card. That's what I really to get my hands on.
DeleteBickering seems to have become a pastime as we age. lol Best wishes on the new chair giving many years of service.
ReplyDeleteDarla, yes bickering is what we did frequently about many things. I never took it seriously although Ray did at times.
DeleteIt looks very smart!
ReplyDeleteI would never try to put the chair together myself, but you don't have a skilled grandchild. Are there no shops that sell the chairs fully assembled?
Hels, I suppose there are stores that sell assembled chairs, but they certainly won't fit in a car boot, so would have to be delivered.
DeleteI hope this new chair works out. My office chair has a tendency to sink on me, and I'm constantly cranking it back up.
ReplyDeleteMine too! It's very annoying.
DeleteHmm, sinking chairs seems to be a thing. Make sure they are not leaking a fluid onto the floor.
DeleteAw that mystical arguing within couples that are clearly meant to be together one of life's mysteries. I know you miss him. Best wishes on your new chair!
ReplyDeleteCloudia, mystical at times, serious at other times. Indeed I do miss him.
DeleteI wonder...I've been advised of a loose screw or two in my day. Perhaps I should look around the house for an Allen wrench.
ReplyDeleteYour chair is very nice. I got a new chair for Christmas. Sadly, it hasn't held up. Looks like I'll need to ask for another.
Debby, that is bad about your chair, ten months. It seems you just have to pay a decent amount to get a good chair.
DeleteThis time, following your example, I am going to get a fabric chair. It was shocking how quickly this chair went 'bad'.
DeleteThat's a fine looking chair. Ikea? What brand was the old one that lasted 25 years? I need a new chair too. I bought one able to carry 100kg for many hours at a time, but after only a short while there was a cracking sound and now the seat dips forward and to the left so I am sitting lopsided all day.
ReplyDeleteRiver, I've no idea of the name of the old one that lasted so long. We bought it from an office supply shop, along with the three drawer filing cabinet in about 1993. ? This new one came from the big blue shed. I think Ray may have been close to 100kg at some point. This chair is 150kg limited. You probably should have taken yours back to the store and asked for a replacement, but wrestling an office chair onto a bus, well.
DeleteLovely new chair it does look good.
ReplyDeleteFor me it was hard to get used to a new chair for the computer desk, though I do now use my laptop.
Enjoy.
A birthday coming up - hope you have a good one.
Thanks Margaret. I am pleased. I could use a laptop, as long as I have a mouse plugged in. But really for blogging, I live the desktop.
DeleteI can totally relate to the frustration of a worn-out chair! It's a good investment to splurge on a quality one.
ReplyDeleteI think so Pradeep. Before Ray died we had discussed that we needed to stop always going for cheap, especially for travel, but not only that.
DeleteLike the look of the new chair particularly as it appears to be fabric and not leather (black plastic more likely these days).
ReplyDeleteI tend to get a sinking feeling when I sit on ours - it’s almost impossible to work with my chin resting on the desk
Cathy, it is fabric. Our last chair with plastic did not last at all. You are another one with a sinking chair. That makes three.
DeleteIt's a very nice chair! Happy birthday to you, I'd buy you coffee and cake if you were round here
ReplyDeleteA heads up Kylie, lemon meringue pie or Polish cheese cake accompanied by a double espresso.
DeletePolsh cheeecake requires some resaearch, I wouldn't want ot give you anything I hadn't tested
DeleteNice chair, I am likely to need a new chair soon.
ReplyDeleteTP, I expect yours does see some plentiful use.
DeleteThe chair is looking good! I'm sure Phyllis liked the old one merely because it was "broken in," and the new one will feel better after you've used it a while.
ReplyDeletePossibly so Steve. The old one was rather too broken in for me.
DeleteWe always have discussions during assembly of things as one of us doesn't like to read instructions first.
ReplyDeleteA big birthday! Hurray, Andrew.
Thanks Pat. I was the one who read the directions, especially to get an overall views first.
DeleteTry putting a new duvet cover on with a partner!
ReplyDeleteJackie, folding a sheet was bad enough. With me being right handed and Ray being left handed, with us facing each other, you would think it would be smooth process. It never was.
