This is a very clear map of the area of great concern in the Middle East from a company called Mapporn. Tens of thousands Palestinians have been killed by Israel, in response to an attack by Palestine against Israel that killed some hundreds and hostages were taken and many have not been returned. The unnamed yellow coloured bit on the coast to the left of Palestine is the Gaza Strip, so consider it is part of Palestine.
2. Palestine needs to stop all of its nonsense about Israel's right to exist. Israel existence is backed by world opinion. The state of Palestine is also is also backed by world opinion.
3. Israel needs to stop the settlers invading disputed land, and get the settlers out of Syria.
4. Israel has created a new generation of Arabs who will hate Israel. That is really an own goal, perhaps the worst outcome there could ever be.
5. Jews and Arabs have so much in common. Why can't they just get along.
6. Victories over other nations can be very hollow, with the subjugated rebellious.
7. What is needed is negotiations in good faith. It might take months or even years. Just keep on climbing up the rockface.
First, they all have to learn to listen to each other and politicians are notoriously bad at that.
ReplyDeleteListening would be a good start, JB.
DeleteShhh! Say anything, anything quizzical at all about the way that Israel has conducted its "war" on Gaza and you are automatically branded an anti-Semite!
ReplyDeleteI know YP, but I think you have stated the very obvious and you weren't wrong. Whatever race or creed, surely none want to see what is happening to continue.
DeleteI am not sure that this can ever be mended.
ReplyDeleteJayCee, it has been going on for such a long time now. We have to remain hopeful.
DeleteGenerations of hate embedded in their history create an identity for their own kinds
ReplyDeleteYes Roentare, that is what is has happened. They don't have to like each other, just be peaceful.
DeleteWhy is the Gaza Strip so far away from its own country? Carve out a tiny strip of Israel right on the Palestinian border, call it Gaza and give that tiny seaside strip to Israel? It doesn't make sense to me to be fighting over such a tiny bit of land. Of course there is that other reason; the hatred of the Jewish people which is equally senseless to me.
ReplyDeleteI really don't know River. There will be good historical reasons, I'm sure. Both Palestine and Gaza are very heavily populated so I don't know where those in Gaza could move to. I can't pretend to understand much at all.
DeleteAccording to Wikipedia:
ReplyDelete"The Palestinian National Authority (PA or PNA; Arabic: السلطة الوطنية الفلسطينية as-Sulṭa al-Waṭanīya al-Filasṭīnīya), commonly known as the Palestinian Authority and officially the State of Palestine,[6] is the Fatah-controlled government body that exercises partial civil control over West Bank areas 'A' and 'B' as a consequence of the 1993–1995 Oslo Accords. The Palestinian Authority controlled the Gaza Strip prior to the Palestinian elections of 2006 and the subsequent Gaza conflict between the Fatah and Hamas parties, when it lost control to Hamas; the PA continues to claim the Gaza Strip, although Hamas exercises de facto control. Since January 2013, the Palestinian Authority has used the name 'State of Palestine' on official documents, although the United Nations continues to recognize the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) as the 'representative of the Palestinian people'."
I think we can agree the above complicates matters.
Thanks Kirk. It is terribly complicated isn't it, and none of us can pretend to understand beyond unnecessary killing.
DeleteDon't understand what the hatred is for Jews, never will understand that.
ReplyDeleteEveryone thinks they are right in this conflict and each will not see reason - it's very sad to be fighting over this strip of land now for years.
Margaret, and the opposite, the hatred of Arabs. Will the hate and fighting stop one day? It has been paused in the past.
DeleteA simple solution like "live and let live" is so difficult in that region that is beset with complicated groups of friends and enemies. It's difficult to figure out who is fighting whom and for what!
ReplyDeletePradeep, it is terribly complicated. It makes your own country's religious conflict problems seem rather minor.
DeleteI'll only say one thing: thousands of tiny babies in white body bags.

WWW
WWW, and why do we need know any more than that.
DeleteBefore language even existed one being picked up a rock and another died over some stupid territorial issue. You'd think humans would be past this by now. ~shakes head~ Then again, stupid wistful me, I also thought we'd have flying cars. But at least wartime brought us useful things like nylon stockings. ~bitter laugh~ Please, someone just kill me now.
ReplyDeleteDarla, in so many ways we are so sophisticated, but we've never gotten past our cave accommodation history. I just wanted a jet backpack and a maid like Rosie.
DeleteI agree that the two-state solution is the only solution, but there will be no peace until both sides abandon their grudges.
ReplyDeleteSteve, maybe the world will see it one day, but I doubt we will.
DeleteThe yellow on the right, labeled Palestine, is the West Bank and not a country either, is it? Not ruled by Hamas as was the Gaza strip. Arabs fight too among their own different religious sects, like now in Pakistan, with bombings. I don't know why.
ReplyDeleteStrayer, I guess the negotiations would have to be between Israel and the most powerful or relevant Arab grouping.
