C'mon lovey. We've got a train to catch.
We had a bite to eat and coffee in Queenscliff and headed down the hill to the train station. The steam train wasn't operating this day, so the carriages were pulled by a diesel powered locomotive. We've taken the trip before and R enjoyed it. This time he made it plain he did not, mostly because the train was chockers with families and many children. The train doesn't run daily and it was school holidays, so it was to be expected to be busy. "Don't ever ask me to do that again", was his summary.
There are some nice views along the way.
LOL -- I think I might have reacted similarly to R, to be honest! Those DO look like dramatic waves.
ReplyDeleteSteve, the train trip saved a bit for me by having a nice looking young daddy sitting opposite me. They were dramatic waves. It isn't an open beach to the wild sea on our south coast.
DeleteWow at the wind and the waves. Glad that you had a nice dinner after your exertions.
ReplyDeleteApart from R moaning about the train, it was a good day EC.
DeleteMy other half would have been just like R...lots of kids drive him nuts.
ReplyDeleteThat is a seriously frothy sea.
JayCee, the sea was quite different to what we normally see. Aside from squealing kids, I like the noises made by the next generation to come.
DeleteI find that lagger sign very intriguing too.
ReplyDeleteRoentare, there were two signs actually. I didn't take a photo of the other.
DeleteI actually think you're wrong...the pictures gave me of how rough the sea was! I bet it was loud!
ReplyDeleteWhat did I miss? Who's Coco?
Debby, Coco or Fuzzy Coco is Sister's elderly dog, one of the three pets we were looking after.
DeleteOh, steamed mussels in a nice seasoned buttery wine sauce and a side of crusty bread are so good. Yum. I'm so happy that freezer technology has improved and we enjoy fresh tasting seafood in landlocked Ohio, USA. :) I bet Coco enjoyed a good romp. Be well!
ReplyDeleteDarla, I've had a number of different sauces with mussels. This one was tomato based. Very nice. I wonder about having seafood when we are far inland. Is is frozen or fresh?
DeleteThe Queenscliff Brewhouse is the perfect place for dinner. A great architectural history, on-site brewery and fresh, local seafood. And no children!
ReplyDeleteHels, it is a good venue and I don't know its history but it is old and I am sure it has a great history. Hmm, no kids? I don't remember seeing any.
DeleteDid you take your surfboard to the beach at Queenscliff? I have heard that all Aussie blokes go surfing at every opportunity and then have a Barbie afterwards. Just like Ken.
ReplyDeleteYP, the weather remained cool so the surfboard remained strapped to the car roof and the wetsuits just took up boot space.
DeleteThere you go. I thought Ken was gay. And two old men having a Barbie together can look rather sad.
Ken is asexual - probably because he doesn't have genitals. Mind you, one could say the same about Barbie.
DeleteGood that you and Coco didn't go for a swim.
ReplyDeletePat, I should be complaining about the heat, but I am not. Aside from one day when it was too hot to paddle, otherwise it was too cold to paddle.
DeleteThose are some rough seas. At least there is no evidence of idiots in the water.
ReplyDeleteYour beer sign is interesting. Did you wash your mussels down with a cold ale?
Merlot, no challenging behaviour in Point Lonsdale. All perfectly polite and obedient to swimming warnings. The mussels were washed down with two glasses of well chilled white. I don't really enjoy beer anymore, but I used to.
DeleteThe amount of foam and the crashing over rocks clearly shows how rough the sea was. LOVE the photos. Too bad about the kiddie filled train, R should have realised it would be so because of the school holidays. I have never eaten mussels.
ReplyDeleteRiver, the train trip was my idea, so I get the blame. I think I only ate mussels for the first time about ten years ago. I really like them but the sauce really makes them.
DeleteI didn’t like to mention school holidays = children, what did you expect- but I see River has done so.
ReplyDeleteA couple of hundred a head on the Q Train (usually adults only) doesn’t sound so bad a deal after all does it? . Queenscliff to Drysdale return- lunch included- 3hrs of pleasure 😊
Cathy, it was all my fault, apparently. I'll mention about the Q Train in the next post.
DeleteI can see the sea is rough, nice froth, sand in the waves - yes, it's rough..nice photos Andrew.
ReplyDeleteMargaret, at low tide it is nice little beach. Thanks.
DeleteYou can't get away from children on a train. Poor R!
ReplyDeleteThe sea doesn't look like a proper Australian sea - blue and calm and inviting. My husband thought it was the Hebrides!
JB, I suppose we have lots of different seas. Many are not calm and inviting.
DeleteAs long as you don't get close enough to be swept away, a rough sea can be kind of mesmerizing.
ReplyDeleteVery much mesmerising Kirk. We've had so many sea drownings in the last two months. People don't understand the sea at all.
DeleteChildren can be annoying, I wonder if we were when we were that age?
ReplyDeleteTP, of course we weren't. We were angelic.
DeleteSurf looks rough and muddy. Is R becoming a grumpy old man? Kids are loud and rambunctious, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteStrayer, we are both grumpy old men. It pleases me to say it is only sand in the turbulent water.
DeleteLoads of kids in a cramped space are not good for my mental health either but how on earth could you predict that? Pshaw on the waves. :D You should see REAL waves out here on the Edge.

WWW, the train was certainly busier than I expected. We can have huge waves along our unprotected southern coast, but I do think you probably do waves better.
