Saturday Scandal 2

The damning photos below show the confluence of the North and South Santiam Rivers in Oregon, US.

Strayer writes a little  about it here and you can read more detail in this story I came across. DEQ stands for Department of Environmental Quality

Australia has plenty of environmental problems of its own and perhaps I should be writing about them instead, but these photos are just so shocking. Photos by Brian Clift.

    1. Strayer, the fishers may be 'environmentalists' but isn't it all about their sport?

  2. It's one of those situations that make me feel awful because there isn't anything I can do about it.

    1. I know River, but a little publicity around the world might just possibly make a difference.

    1. Kirk, I really wonder what the point of DEQ is if not to prevent such things. Mind, my country is no better with such outrages.

  6. Sadly I like hearing about disasters elsewhere. It helps to show what is happening there.. so that we can see the inevitable outcome of our own disasters. But why can't we be a bit more proactive ourselves?

    1. Hels, lol. Australia never learns from the learning in other countries. We have send politicians and researches to find out, instead of looking at reputable internet sites. Then we need a parliamentary committee or an in depth study to reinvent the wheel, that the world is already successfully using.

  7. What we don't read about is projects like the muilti-billion-dollar tunnel project in Washington DC to divert storm water runoff out of the sewer system to stop sanitary sewage from overflowing into the river. The tunnel runs under some "sensitive" locations and very little is said about it.

    1. TP, that's a big problem solved. I understand after the privatisation of the water/sewerage systems in England it is a huge problem, and I think in Miami too.

  8. We never learn from our own mistakes so we're unlikely to learn from others'.

  9. We don't know how to treat the planet and I doubt we'll ever learn.
