It's all about me

It is not like we don't have jackets, we just don't have right ones for the right occasions. R's puffer jacket is thin but full of insulating material. It cost a bit, at Marks and Sparks in Newcastle, England but is such a great and stylish jacket. He finds it too warm for milder days. I want one like his for next winter. I wish I'd bought one at M&S.

Today we both wanted to buy a smart and casual jacket. The one I've been wearing is showing 'rust'. I have a better one for really cold weather, and one that only comes out for weddings and funerals.

While R didn't find a new one, OMG. There is my perfect smart/casual jacket in my size. It can be difficult to find staff to help you in the department store Myer, but when you are looking at a jacket priced in three figures, they appear. Salesman told me the jacket is made in Italy from a combination of Australian wool and French linen. How good is this global village!

Ten percent off Sir if you become a Rodd and Gunn member, and I see you will be spending over $150 and so you will receive in an email a $15 store voucher. And Sir, twice a year you will be invited to our store where all Rodd and Gunn clothing will be 30% off.

No shit Sherlock.

R gave the jacket a bit of an iron after unpicking the pocket and tail stitches with my razor sharp medical scissors.

Apologies to my 11 inheritors for the deprivation by my outrageous expenditure.

  1. Just wondering when was the last time you went clothes shopping Andrew. The price you quoted isn’t that expensive- but then you did say ‘over $150’ so it depends how much over. Double?? Sounds like a nice piece of clobber (as some might say)

    1. Cathy, I'll just say well over $150 but of course not $400. It is rare for me to be instantly happy with clothing but this is just right.

    1. JayCee, I will do so when we return from our break, and the other one I mentioned a few weeks ago.

  3. It sounds as though you've found a bargain - well, future bargains, anyway.

    1. JB, I couldn't really say that. I've never spent that kind of money before. I won't be making a habit of it.

  4. I have been thinking of jackets for the last few days. I need a new one for mid autumn chills and another for early winter. Deep winter is taken care of. It is so hard to find ones that you like and that look good.

    1. Pat, it is all the more complicated for you with more extreme weather. That was exactly my problem, finding what I liked that looked good.

  5. How wonderful to find a piece of clothing you like, want, and to have it in stock and in size. How many bottles of Scotch are you going to need to forgo to ensure that your inheritors don't miss out?

    1. Absolutely no deprivation for me in that area EC. The hopeless aim is to have a zero bank balance with my last breath.

    1. Merlot, I fear I have oversold the jacket. Check back a bit later.

  7. As a free cycle and thriftie shopper, I stand amazed at spending three figures. But I gather this is a long-term investment as much as a jacket, so go you! And with Caro, I agree we need modeling shots.

    1. Boud, I really hope it is a long term investment. I can't afford to put on any weight.

  8. Good on you, and that is not a lot of money for a jacket, well in my book it's not...enjoy it.

    1. Margaret, $150 isn't much for a jacket. What I paid is, but I spend so little on clothing with some of my daily shirts years old and yes, they are good quality.

  9. Adelaide is supposed to have a mild meditteranen type climate, so you'll probably laugh when I say for next winter I want the type of clothing worn in the far far north in those snow-block igloos. Mukluks included. My recent winter electricity bill had my eyes spinning!
Anyway, I also need a nice casual jacket for days when my 25 years old ski jacket is just too warm. It is looking quite shabby now too, but it keeps me warm from May to October. I don't think I'll find anything decent in my usual haunts, Cheap as Chips or The Reject Shop.

    1. River, a while ago while I had a few minutes to wait for a tram, I popped into an opshop for quick look. I honed in a a nice looking jacket but it wasn't my size and ever second hand, it was priced at nearly $200.

I have seen some bargain jackets in Aldi at times. But you have to be there at the right time to snap them up.

  11. I had to smile at your last sentence! A nice piece of clothing can make you feel so good and that is worth something all by itself.

    1. Last sentence, none of them know. Perhaps they will say 'I wish i was nicer to Auntie Andrew'. I agree about clothing. I wore the jacket for the first time today, Sunday, and it was just perfect.

  12. Nothing is more fun than the first or second time wearing something new, that is great looking and fits really well!! Please have R snap a photo of you in your spanky new attire!

  13. The last time John bought a jacket (in the spring) he bought three!!
And I was just thinking that I "need" another jacket, as winter is long and it is nice to have some variety in outer wear.

    1. I like that variety theory Jackie but inevitably for me something will become a favourite and see most of the wear.
