I'm joining with Sami and others for Monday Mural.
These are in a back street south of Carlisle Street in Balaclava.
It seems courage and community is a female trait.

I had a nice weekend away. The hotel was not that posh but quite nice, and on the Geelong waterfront. Unbeknownst to me until an hour or so ...
These are all hand painted? They are quite well done.
ReplyDeleteYes they would be JayCee. I am sure the artist will appreciate your comment.
DeleteYup! You don't want to associate men with courage and community. They're all just selfish, lazy pigs.
ReplyDeleteWhy on earth would you say that?
DeleteCathy, it was a tongue in cheek comment by me and the same for YP. I know his sense of humour.
DeleteLOL
DeleteSome of the women depicted there look as if they might come from very patriarchal, misogynistic cultures so courage and community would be very important to them as they embark on a new life here - does it need to be painted on a wall, though?. I heartily agree with Mr Pudding - well not what he said exactly but we know what he meant! It is time to stop highlighting the differences between us all and get on as human beans regardless of gender, sexuality, race, religion etc etc etc.
ReplyDeleteCaro, I wonder about so called patriarchal societies. In some of them women seem to play such a central role in the family, they must be respected. Teenage sons seem to have huge respect for their mothers, more so that many westerners. I guess you have to be there to really know.
DeleteThey play a central role because that is the only role they are allowed to play.
DeleteDo you know why the woman arms are acoss.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Only guessing Dora. They could be defiant or protective but it looks more like some way of indicating heart and love.
DeleteIt is very nice even in the black and grey shades. I disagree with YP, not all men are selfish, lazy pigs. I know more than a few who aren't.
ReplyDeleteRiver, come on. You can tell he is being ironic. He is a decent bloke.
DeleteThey are very life like. I wonder if they are all locals ( multicultural population)?
ReplyDeleteVery possible Cathy. Jewish perhaps. We lived nearby for nine years and Balaclava was certainly part of the Bagel Belt.
DeleteNo wonder we loved living in Balaclava for years :) Not just for the coffee shops.
ReplyDeleteHels, yes, although when we lived there, there were not many coffee shops at all. I can remember only two, one the Coffee Company I think and another towards Chapel Street.
DeleteI am fascinated by large life like murals and wonder how the artist achieves this. Small paintings that are digitally scaled up?
ReplyDeleteMarie, it amazes me as much as you and other readers of my blog. The silo murals are especially amazing. Perhaps there is some tech involved.
DeleteI like the mural. Does that hand gesture mean something?
ReplyDeleteSteve, I'd only be guessing what it means.
DeleteLook like they are hugging the world.
ReplyDeleteI like that TP.
DeleteI like those! Oh don't say such about men, I know plenty of great men, kind and courageous. I think you are one of them by the way, not to embarrass you or kiss up.
ReplyDeleteStrayer, as you would guess, I rather like men, the great and not so great. Thank you.
DeleteYou, Andrew, YP and Strayer all share my sense of humor. lol I'm guessing the gesture indicates wellbeing or warm feelings. Take care!
