Too long

I stole a couple of photos online, but surely it is ok if I credit them and say how good they are.

The first was from JayCee I think around Christmas time. This was her accommodation somewhere I have forgotten. I remember I looked at the hotel website, and wow, in more ways than one.

And this lighthouse photo was by Frogdancer. I changed the photo name to FDancerKrools. I now have no idea of what krools meant. Canada perhaps? It's a very fine lighthouse.

I may as well continue with photos that have hung around for too long. These two are from Shorpy.com
The American male yoof of the 1950s? Mine is blond. Not sure about yours.

I believe this is funny man Jack Benny and his wife climbing down the steps of a train. One of his wives, perhaps. They look so elegant. Five seconds of comprehensive research tells me Mary Livingstone was his only wife.

  1. Hey! Someone stole my photo! 😉 (That was the Hotel Brunelleschi in Florence).
I love that lighthouse photo with its gorgeous blue sky and, yes, the elegance of Mr and Mrs Benny is sadly lacking these days. No trackie bottoms back then.

    1. I guess I owe you royalties JayCee. Give me your bank account details and I'll see you right. Mr and Mrs certainly weren't trying to travel incognito.

  2. Wow. Some excellent photos there. Elegance seems to be largely a thing of the past doesn't it?
Who doesn't love a lighthouse - though I suspect it wasn't an easy life back in the day...

    1. EC, yes elegant people are rare now. It wasn't an easy life in many isolated lighthouses.

    1. If I took the photo Roentare, it would look like the leaning tower of Pisa.

  4. The Secret Life of Lighthouses has been an amazing series on TV, especially in dangerous locations. Your lighthouse looks stable and solid.

  5. The dressed up travelers don't happen now. It used to be a thing, especially for flying. It seemed special. Maybe trains and planes were cleaner?

    1. Boud, now flyers, especially in economy dress right down for comfort over style in tiny seating spaces. I can't remember ever seen a man in suit flying, even in business class. The staff are the only smartly dressed people now.

  6. It's not fair! You included one of JayCee's photos but not one of mine! I'm not playing with you any more!

  8. In addition to being Jack Benny's wife (and, some say, "beard"), Mary Livingstone was also a player on his long-time radio show. She didn't make the transition to television though, having developed by then a bad case of stage fright.

    1. Kirk, really? A beard! Maybe that's why he only had one wife. She knew what she in for and accepted it. Thanks for the detail.

  9. Share the joy. That's a perfect photo of a lighthouse. Comfort or elegance? No dilemma for me.

    1. You'd scrub up very nicely Fun60. You move gracefully, and that's a start.

  10. I remember Frogdancer. JayCee's Hotel looks lovely. I wonder what it is about blonde hair that makes it so attractive to so many? I like dark hair.

    1. River, I don't particularly care for blonds but his looks do appeal to me. Dark and smouldering works better for me. Frogdancer is doing a lot of travel in her retirement.

    1. Ah yes TP. I've seen the step boxes in YouTube clips, a bit larger and safer.
