A Glaswegian in Kuala Lumpur makes a You Tube clip while watching a You Tube clip of an Australian comedian performing in Nashville, USA. Global Village, hey.
Like most male comedians, he obsessively uses the eff word. I think it can be a great word to at times slip into a comedy performance for dramatic effect, but clearly I am an old and old fashioned person with my view.
Nevertheless, Jim Jeffries becomes seriously moral and wise in the latter half of his performance, and the performance was recorded in 2016 before #45 became President.

Darn. No subtitles for us deafies ...
ReplyDeleteSorry about that JayCee.
DeleteHe does throw the F word around, doesn't he?
ReplyDeleteSandra sandracox.blogspot.com
Oh yes Sandra. His performance would be just as good without such frequent use, but that is how male comedians in Australia, and I think the UK too, work. I don't hear complaints from the usual viewers of such acts.
DeleteI could have done without the commentary, but I suppose that's what he's there for, the Glaswegian, I mean.
ReplyDeleteJB, yes at times it is annoying when he interrupts, but that is his schtick.
DeleteCalling the 45th President by number and not by name reminds me of prisons where criminals are always referred to by number only. But then Jeffries could not have known what was coming.
ReplyDeleteHels, I expect, well hope, #45 soon has his own prisoner number. Do yo know the name of person who committed the NZ massacre in 2019? The media decided to not respect him by mostly not using his name, as happened in New Zealand.
Deletethecontemplativecat here. Yup, the f bomb is there, over and over.
ReplyDeleteCC, it certainly is and I don't see the need for it. While Australia takes some swearing from your culture, generally ours closely matches the UK, for better or worse.
DeleteI like the channel 7 show he hosts 1% question.
ReplyDeleteRoentare, I watched the first episode and I didn't really like it but since I've seen some YouTube clips, I quite like him.
DeleteI watch it to see how many questions I can get right.
DeleteThe title posted across the video of Jeffries as it runs is annoying.
ReplyDeleteStrayer, it annoyed me too. Maybe if you want the original version without title, you have to pay.
DeleteThat's the same Jim Jeffries that makes me laugh when I watch The 1% Club, I should look up more of his stuff on youtube.
ReplyDeleteRiver, clearly he doesn't swear on tv...well that depends on the time slot I guess.
DeleteDon't like swearing and usually don't watch comedians who do. Yes he does that 1% Club but I don't watch it...just not into that man at all.
ReplyDeleteMargaret, if you watch comedians on YouTube, it is much harder to find those who don't swear. In fact all the comedians who perform on tv swear in the live performances, as I've discovered on YouTube.
DeleteYes Andrew have seen a few on YouTube but don't watch. Carl Baron is ok, I like him and we have a DVD of his, he always makes me laugh. Of course there is always the late Dave Allen!
DeleteOh yes Margaret, Dave Allen was brilliant, and without the swearing.
DeleteHe Who Must Not Be Named, is a lesson for the rest of the world, in voting for bright responsible people.
ReplyDeleteTP, yes and it is hard to imagine that he could hurt his country again as he did in the past.
DeleteI watched this but it did not make me laugh. I am not fond of overuse of swear words in comedy though as you suggest, intelligently inserted swear words can be very effective when trying to raise a laugh. Billy Connolly was great at that. It was natural and unforced.
ReplyDeleteYP, no it is not laughing kind of comedy, is it. Somehow when a Scot uses the word, it sounds less offensive.
DeleteI can't watch the video because I'm at work but I'll catch up with it later. I agree with you about the f-bomb. It has its place but it's deadening when used too much. There's a political blogger I like named Jeff Tiedrich who would be brilliant if only he didn't curse so much.
ReplyDeleteSteve, it is a shame they mar their performances like that, but I suspect it is mostly that we are of an older time. It doesn't seem to bother younger people.
DeleteIs it still relevant? I suppose we'll find out in November. Take some comfort that an American audience in a "red state" is laughing at these jokes.
ReplyDeleteKIrk, he seemed to see the writing on the wall. Yes, that the performance was in Nashville struck me but then I guess the audience would have had an idea about what might be coming when they booked.
