England Wrap Up

There is not really much more to say.

This is a video I must have taken at The Denton Hotel. It was very busy and there were sports on tv. Normally it is such a pleasant place to meet, have a drink and a meal. But this night it was just too noisy. Sister 1 rarely complains but she certainly did this night. We left as soon as we could after our meals.

Later note: Given I can't remember taking the video, it could have also been at the Fox and Hounds pub.

Sent to me by a friend, footage taken at a Melbourne gay bar.

The model railway at York Train Museum was very good. I wish I had more time to watch all that was happening with various trains.

This vehicle is what I know as a rail motor.

Wink was a bar in our Colombo hotel. Rather swank.

The spicy nibbles were complimentary and very nice. R had an Aperol and I had a martini, too much vermouth and not enough gin (yeah, one or the other written would have done).

The hotel grounds were of many hectares, some groomed and some semi jungle.

I assume the "I do" balloon was an answer to a marriage proposal to someone who would soon appear at the airport exit door.

Later edit: I failed to mention that my voice cracked as I hugged R's Sister 1 goodbye. I kind of knew it was the last time we would see her.

Also, this was supposed to be posted tomorrow, and I do have history of mucking up when a month changes.

  1. What an interesting way and place to respond to a marriage proposal.

    1. EC, maybe he or she sent a text message that will be read by the person just landing.

  2. Seems like they used the wrong vowel for the name of the hotel bar in Colombo.
Judging by the size of that ring, Lemuel Gulliver was about to come through that door.
I can hear a Chinese voice accompanying the model train videos. Was that you Han Droo?

    1. YP, I would not have minded seeing the barman wink.
Was Lemuel a bit of dandy in his time?
I am modest about my foreign language skills and my Chinese name is Mai Hung.

  6. It's never easy when you know it's the last time. I fell apart completely when I knew it was the last time I would see my mother. I was 26 with a baby and a toddler. I didn't want anyone to see so passed the kids to my father and went to a single stall bathroom at the airport and screamed.

    1. Ah la Sally Bowles in Cabaret under the train viaduct. It is one thing when people are in their 60s/70s but quite another when you are only 26.

  7. So not the Denton, I guess?

I can tell just by looking at that martini that it has too much vermouth! LOL

    1. Definitely not Steve. I made some bad assumptions.
Honestly, in an Asian country, I wasn't expecting a great martini.

  8. I read a novel once in which the protagonist asked a bartender to wave his drink in the general direction of vermouth before serving. lol Model trains are so neat. :D I am sorry your trip was bittersweet.

    1. Darla, that is probably how I prefer my martinis. Yes, bittersweet but it was good. Keep the good memories.

  9. I cannot get the words in the first video. The complimentary snacks look interesting to taste. What a trip you had.

    1. Roentare, someone else was speaking. I've not listened to it with the sound on. It was quite wonderful, and most of our holidays have been.

  10. Would you go back to Colombo for a touristy visit? Saying goodbye as we get older and understand the finality of the words is always so hard.

    1. Yes, and no. I've at some YouTube clips recently of travel in Sri Lanka and I would love to return. Some of the train trips are just amazing. But I can't deal with heat and humidity now. Every time a YouTuber says, great, open windows and I can put my camera lens outside, I think ok, no aircon.

  12. So....you at first THOUGHT you had taken the first video in England, but then remembered it was from a friend in Melbourne? I see nothing but males so I can readily believe it was a gay bar.

  14. There's something about miniatures, either trains or whole towns, that fascinates me.

    1. Bob, perhaps it is because we can see in miniatures what we would like to see in real life, that is an overview of things.

  15. Lots of variety today. I've probably missed a post on R's sister. Is she unwell? Good to know, I'm not the only one that puts out a post on a different day than intended:)

    1. Sandra, I see why you thought that. R is 74, she is 72. 22 hour flights are just too much now, never mind the cost.
