Musical Monday

This attractive enough young man performed most excellently. I remember bearded leather clad Tex McKenzie performing the same song in falsetto at the gay Laird O'Cock Pen hotel in Collingwood oh so many years ago.

This dude has it really down to a tee.

  1. I don't know what I expected but this was not it. Fun.

  2. He is a fem guy. Well known in China for a long time for singing the songs that require incredibly high pitch and depth. Funny that he is never vocal-trained. He used to work in sales for companies

    1. Thanks for the extra colour to my post Roentare. I may have seen him in another performance. I can't remember now.

  3. That yodelling was impressive. I remember the pub. It was across the road from Myer IT where Himself worked for a while back in the 80s I think. We went there a couple of times. An eye opener for this sheltered lass but great fun.

    1. Ok Caro. I guess it would be a bit surprising. I think in the 90s it became a men only venue. There were good reasons for that to happen as hen parties invaded.

    2. That is awful. We never went to gawk - rather a change of pub. It certainly wasn't a regular thing and there was respect all round. People make me sick.

    3. If you've heard of The Peel Hotel, it was even worse. Both venues had to go before a government body for discrimination exemption. Rather spoiled it for straight men and females who just liked such venues.

  4. I am sure that lonely goatherds don't normally sing like that. You are welcome to him Andrew.

    1. YP, do you thing they goatherders would have deeper voices and be more masculine? But still very lonely and in need of 'company'?

    2. Goatherds will be lonely because they probably stink of goat shit. You wouldn't want to stand next to one in the pub. With regard to your first question, I would say definitely "yes". Being a goatherd must be tough - not a job for nancy boys.

    3. Oh YP. I didn't think of that. You have spoilt my fantasy. Now I am wondering where the phrase Nancy Boy came from.

  5. Well, I must admit that this was certainly what I was expecting to hear. Julie Andrews would sure be impressed.

    1. Indeed Julie would be impressed Debby. I know some Asian people can sing English language songs perfectly without knowing the English language. We knew a Filipino whose English was poor but won first place for his rendition of, I did it my way.

  6. shocked me some, when he started belting out that one. Love it!

  7. I'll have to listen later, I've got my playlist belting out some old favourites right now.

    1. You should watch it River. And then Cabaret if you haven't seen it.

    2. I tried to watch Cabaret, nope, not for me.

  9. The coughing jag was intentional, was it not? Even if it wasn't, still very impressive. If I just had the sound and not the picture, I would have thought it was Jeanette McDonald.

    1. Kirk, I thought the coughing was intentional. I vaguely know who Jeanette McDonald is but is there a direct connection to the song?

    2. No, just similar-sounding voices, that's all.

    1. TP, I usually watch such clips I put up a number of times and if they continue to work for me, they might work for others.

  11. That is one of the stranger things I've ever seen, but he was pretty good. I'm not sure he understood all the words, but he could give Julie Andrews a run for her money!

    1. Steve, I think it is some kind of rote singing and just to do that must require a lot of skill. I suppose Ms Andrews is still going.

  12. That was both unexpected and quite exceptional. As for knowing the words, of my favorite high school choir performances, my favorites were in Latin. It allowed me to focus on pure technique. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Darla, singing in Latin sounds challenging to me but it has been happening for a very long time.

  13. Loved it! John is now going around whistling it.
