I took Kosov for a job interview today. After months of job hunting, this week he has been offered two jobs by a respectable food chain company, different locations, and has to choose which. While one is closer, the other is easier, simpler and quicker to get to by public transport.
It will be good for him to have regular employment. I don't know what he does for money. I think Phyllis may be supporting him. It's not my business.
Oh jesus, at 9.30 this evening there is a foam ball gun fight going on. I was grabbed to be used as a shield.
I'm sure you make a very worthy shield.
ReplyDeleteI did JB.
DeleteI hope you are well padded?
ReplyDeleteRather too well, JayCee.
DeleteI am glad that Kosov has employment. And am tickled by the image of you as a shield.
ReplyDeleteEC, I was a very effective shield to hide behind.
DeleteNever a dull moment these days!
ReplyDeleteSeems not, Boud.
DeleteAndrew, if he will allow it make sure he is not being ripped off with wages . Having taught International students I know sometimes respectable companies does not mean respectable in dealing with students from overseas. Ones with numbers like those with 7 in them have been known to be sus. I think I am becoming the distant Aunt to these young men😂
ReplyDeleteThey were very clear in writing about pay rates and penalty rates. However, I take nothing for granted and I will be checking. Distant aunt, haha.
Deletethecontemplativecat here. What does being a shield entail?
ReplyDeleteCC, just standing there with the person being attacked behind me. Neither would dare shoot me.
DeleteLOL. Those boys will keep you young!!! Or kill you...one of the two!
ReplyDeleteDebby, you made me think of something serious, which I might write about, but yes, they do keep me young, at heart at least.
DeleteHas language been a problem in the young men finding work?
ReplyDeleteHels, P doesn't have much of an accent but he does speak quite quickly at times. Kosov, well, I have to ask him say some words again. While he knows most words, he doesn't know how to pronounce them all as we know them. Resume as in CV, was one such word, and I thought it was important that he pronounce it correctly, so I corrected him each time until he got it right. He would pronounce it more like the English word resume, to restart something. I don't correct everything he gets wrong, normally only if can't understand. If he wants to improve his English, he can ask me to correct him. He also has some interesting quirks in the way he uses words, which I find quite endearing. To answer your question, possibly his accent is a problem, but he not really applying for customer interface jobs.
DeleteNever a dull moment!
ReplyDeleteQuite true Bob.
DeleteYou are nice to offer a free transport service.
ReplyDeleteI had nothing planned Roentare and it was only a twenty minute drive there, and about a fifteen minute wait.
DeleteI thought the Pancake Parlour had disappeared years ago. So glad he has a job. Always good when tenants have an income.
ReplyDeleteA human shield, eh? I shall notify the UN on your behalf.
Merlot, there are still nine of them sprinkled around Melbourne. It's interesting to ponder what I would do if they couldn't pay the rent. Kosov did live here for the month Phyllis was away last year.
DeleteHad I been hit, I would appreciate your offer to notify the UN.
Watch out for those foam balls.
ReplyDeleteSandra sandracox.blogspot.com
Sandra, its the crossfire I worry about.
DeleteI'm sure he's relieved to get a job. I had to chuckle thinking of you being in the middle of the foam gun fight! I love pancakes, the pic makes me hungry.
ReplyDeleteDeb, I think he is. He seems quite content not working though, just doing what he does for his studies.
DeleteJudging by the picture, seems the job is some kind of pancake restaurant.
ReplyDeleteKirk, it is and it's called the Pancake Parlour, and it began its life in your country. If it used the same name, I suppose it would be Parlor.
DeleteYou’ve become a very good mate to a couple of likely lads.
ReplyDeleteA tolerant father figure perhaps Cathy.
DeleteThat pancake stack looks delicious. I hope Kosov gets a job, a little financial independence is a wonderful thing. And it will give him a chance to learn about budgets and savings. Who won the nerf ball fight?
ReplyDeleteRiver, there is never a victor, just fun until they've had enough.
DeleteP.S. like anonymous says, make sure he is not being ripped of with wages and make sure he gets proper work breaks. The Golden Arches was recently in the news here for not allowing workers sufficient toilet breaks and also in the news a while ago, maybe as much as a year, for not paying the proper wages for the times worked.
ReplyDeleteRiver, I replied to Anon earlier and yes, I am will be checking. Pay is one thing, but the employer really has it over them about toilet breaks and their entitled breaks.
DeleteFun in the house and good laugh it seems, Andrew..
ReplyDeleteOh yes Margaret. Thanks.
DeleteGlad to see Kosov has landed a job!
ReplyDeleteIt is good Pradeep. He is not afraid of work, so I hope he likes the job.
DeleteDid you make a good human shield?
ReplyDeleteI did TP. I was not hit with a bullet and no was whoever was behind me.
DeleteYou have given the guys a home away from home, Andrew. It is good for them and for you.
ReplyDeleteYes Pat, they'll never want to leave.
DeleteHa! I think having these guys living with you must surely keep you young.
ReplyDeleteSteve, there are so many things I wouldn't know about if they weren't here. Nothing life changing, but popular culture and capybaras!
DeleteThank you for making me giggle (to the point I choked on my soda and started a sneezing fit - LOL). I wish you and yours all the best.
ReplyDeleteShenanigans abound Darla. I only tell the half of it.
