Sunday Selections

River and others participate in Sunday Selections and here is my effort for the day.

Kosov loves making models, ships, dinosaurs, trains, trams and Phyllis makes buses. I allowed them some shelf space but not enough to fit all the models, so they rotate them.

Spirit of Tasmania IV was berthed at Station Pier. There is a SoT V too. I am not sure what is happening with them and I must investigate because it is assumed I know about such things.

I wonder why the name was changed and did the lane lead to a synagogue? AI is kind of helpful. Changed to Little Queen Street in 1868 as the lane had become disreputable. 1909 changed to Bourke Lane. It did run alongside the Melbourne Synagogue before the Melbourne Synagogue moved to Toorak Road, it being the domed building in my blog header photo. It was changed back to Little Queen Street, but I can't easily find that date. While at least the sign references the former synagogue, I would like to see the Synagogue Lane put back.

The homeless are doing quite well, at the Elizabeth Street Metro supemarket.

Steve asked about the game Phyllis and Kosov were playing with their friends, and this is it.

Goog luck buying public transport card here if it is raining. The rain pours off the shelter right where you need to stand. Back of the classroom, that boy.

All cats like a box and Jass is no exception. I can't remember what was in the box, maybe my new monitor.

What was she looking at?

This homeless person sleeping next door doesn't have his own shelter.

A friend visited Calcutta and sent me a few photos.

This is the tram driver's cabin, complete with free standing stool. There is probably asbestos inside the controller unit, hence the do not open sign.

Isn't a mobile library tram such a great idea.

  1. Oh dear. Design fault with the ticket machine shelter. Perhaps he wasn't a Melbourne native (used to rain)?

    1. I'll just go for the incredibly stupid, JayCee. They are bad shelters anyway, with little protection from the sun.

  2. Rotating art of any type keeps things more interesting, I think. Unfortunately, my wall art isn't so easily swapped out. lol Be well!

    1. Darla, any art on my walls are now quite firmly fixed. I don't intend to change any, nor add any.

  3. The homeless. Take any major city and you will find that the homeless have become innovative with where and how they will sleep. Adelaide has many, and building entrances often have overnight campers. Some store their belongings in entrances to derelict buildings during the day. There must be a lot of trust about claimed entrances

    1. Might it be more that there is nothing of real value left at the claimed entrances? A bit of bedding mostly, I should think.

  4. Yes the Calcutta Library Tram is indeed a great idea but what is with name change to Kolkata? And why is Madras now Chennai? Perhaps your two adopted sons can explain. I like the name Bombay better than Mumbai.

    1. YP, if it was one city that changed its name, I could cope with that. But remember all three is a struggle. I did ask them about Madras after ordering a Madras curry, but I forget their replies. Chennai curry doesn't have the same ring.

  5. Jass is so adorable! Lovely photos of the cats, Andrew. And I always enjoy seeing ships, trains and buses in different parts of the world.

    2. Thanks Linda. Jass' appearance is adorable. Her temperament, hmmm.

  6. Spirit of Tasmania leaves from Geelong these days, so perhaps the berthing at Station Pier was an advertising celebration. Beautiful Geelong will remain their Victorian home, even when the two new versions of the Spirit of Tasmania start up next year.

  7. Jass is so pretty! I love that the boys are model builders! Cool I love to know about transport, street name lore, and ships. Once I'm able, I'd like to take the 8 day cruise round the Hawaiian Isles! (Though I learned that it does not call at Hilo where I could easily meet with my niece and nephew and their families. I have taken today off from visiting my husband in the Care home. At this point I don't think he will miss me as much as I will benefit from a day off in fact I'm thinking of taking tomorrow as well that would be a first in the past year period i guess that's why I have time to enjoy your posts as they deserve Andrew period thanks for sharing Aloha

    2. I love knowing about the dome in your header! The old street name would be appreciated I'm sure in these times. Our orange embarrassment and his party of syncophants seems headed for a well deserved election drubbing! Hope!

    3. Cloudia, my neighbour HH's husband is still alive with severe dementia. Once he stopped recognising her, she stopped visiting him, and he near to their daughter, two hours drive away from HH.
Fingers crossed for the election. I don't remember the world ever being so focused on your mid term elections.

  8. I love the mobile library. Jass has hit the jackpot, hasn't she? 3 adoring owners...and a perfectly good box!

    1. Debby, it's all about convincing Jass that she has hit the jackpot and showing some gratitude.

  9. Great selection. I hate losing history by renaming streets, etc. I'm amazed Jass chose a large box. Mine would find the smallest and squish in. Cats are amazing. Love, love, love the library tram.

    1. WWW, there have been some controversial place and street names changed recently, and I am unsure about this. I understand why people want the names changed when history has shown them as bad people, but I am not really convinced. And where would that all end?

  10. The rolling tram library is a great idea. I love Kosov's boats. My brother used to make models, mostly cars and planes, he once had fairly large models of the vehicles from The Munsters and The Addams Family tv shows. My ex-the first also made model planes and we had several hanging from the ceiling, until rescued familes for Cyclone Tracy arrived at the base and were housed in tents on the ovals, then the planes came down and were given to the kids who had lost all their toys.

    1. River, I liked both shows but I can't remember any cars in them. That's so nice about your ex thinking of the kiddies. Darwinians were spread widely after the cyclone. Which army base?

  11. Those models look good Andrew. The pussy cat has the ears pricked so heard something. What a great idea of a library on a tram.
Good selection and sad to see the homeless person trying to get some sleep. The boats, NoV came into Devonport the other day and it won't be long and they both will be taking passengers across Bass Strait. Says the 31st October 2026.

  12. Margaret, I assume they are replacing two of the older ferries. Is there space at Devonport for two ferries at the same time?

  14. The tent at the shops looks to be quite protected from the weather but not so well protected from passing traffic? And how on earth do they fix it when there are no pegs?
