Along with River and others, my usual random Sunday Selections.
Brother 1 has grown fine crops of tomatoes and has given away many many, just none to me because I haven't seen him for a while.
In the age of digital photography and selfies, the popularity of this photo booth outside Flinders Street Station is amazing. I believe many a first kiss happened in this photo booth, behind the half length privacy curtain. No doubt half length is for good reasons.
I broke a tumbler, with two of the set six already broken, then Phyllis broke another one. There was also three of a set of four left. I like full sets. Other odd glasses were removed from the cupboard and all will go to the charity shop.
Aww, thank you Phyllis. They are so colourful.
Hmmm, I have seen worse sculptures. Who knows what it is about.
Ooh nice tomatoes. Lucky brother.
ReplyDeleteThat sculpture ... I am informed by that reliable source Professor G that ..
Summary
Location: Queen Victoria Market, Therry St This large bronze sculpture - featuring an array of vegetables, fish and an Aboriginal fishing net - looks whimsically to the relationship between the land and city, tradition and lifestyle, production and consumption. In 1994, the City of Melbourne commissioned Fraser to undertake Wind Contrivance through its Percent for Art Program. The work was sculpted in Fraser’s studio at Lurg, 20 kilometres from Benalla, and cast at the Meridian Foundry in Fitzroy. Wind Contrivance is sited at Queen Victoria Market, a centre point between land and city, and a cipher through which the country harvest is distributed to city dwellers. Unveiled 22 August 1996
Well, there we go JayCee. I appreciate Prof G's research. I knew I had Phyllis and Kosov with me but I couldn't quite remember where we were. I didn't really give it much thought. I would have taken a better look, but they were keen to get going. It was only last Sunday when I took the photo.
Deletethecontemplativecat here. the tomato photo makes me wanting to find a farmers market.
ReplyDeleteCC, I hope your farmers markets are better than ours. I always find them disappointing.
DeleteI'd be seriously annoyed byt the sideways deceptive writing!
ReplyDeleteBob, I'm pleased you think it is wrong too.
DeleteThat photo booth is iconic among Melbournians
ReplyDeleteIt is Roentare. I've just checked and it has a FaceBook page, an Instagram site and a Wikipedia entry.
DeleteIt's a good thing I don't mind mismatched glassware because I always seem to break one of a set as soon as I bring them home! Interesting sculpture, thanks JayCee for looking up the background. We used to have a photo booth in our local mall and before that it was somewhere else in town - where, I don't recall, but I have two sets of pictures from one, taken at different ages. It was always nice to get four pictures because at least one would be half-decent.
ReplyDeleteJenny, four different shots is good, almost like digital images, one is bound to be ok. I've never been in one.
DeleteAndrew
ReplyDeleteThank you for the Royal Princess. Not only is the image gorgeous... but the trip would be amazing.
Really Hels? The ship will be full of old age pensioners. Do you really want to be among them?
DeleteAndrew
DeleteMy pleasures in life are overseas travel, art, architecture, bridge competitions, books, giving academic history lectures, suntanning and drinking cocktails.
The ship would be perfect.
I’ve always wanted to cruise lol ( on a Boat)
ReplyDeleteJohn, having cruised three times, the last one I didn't like, pay heaps for a cruise, a good quality cruise but one where you don't have to dress for dinner.
DeleteWhy not just keep two matching glasses of each set and call it a pair instead of ditching them? I like matching sets too and once had a set of six tall glasses, only two are left, so now it's a matched pair. Ditto several other glasses with only two left of a set of six or four.
ReplyDeleteRooves? Who says rooves these days? Roofs is the plural I know. I've never heard anyone ever saying rooves.
My son J grows tomatoes and other stuff and when I was there last week the twins and I had a mini feast picking tiny yellow tomatoes and eating them. They both declared them "sweet" with a thumbs up.
River, it is a sense of order for me. Disorder does my head in. I like proper sets. Bits and pieces of crockery, glassware and cutlery does not work for me.
DeleteIt was rooves when I went to school. Quaint old language maybe, but that is me.
"Phyllis, what have you done to my view! Fix it!"
ReplyDeleteLooks like he fixed by stepping about a foot backward with the camera.
Kirk, I think the photos were taken on different days but used in this post for content.
DeleteThe tomatoes look good. I feel on two bushes of sweet bite tomatoes a few weeks back, on my back and broke two bushes and hit my heard on the fence hard, falling backwards onto the tomatoes was like falling on a soft bed...lol
ReplyDeleteAll the photos are good and they certainly are pretty glasses.
Oh dear Margaret. It is fortunate a stake didn't get you. I hope you've recovered now.
DeleteYes thank you Andrew, I'm ok. The stake was pointy and I'm lucky I missed it.
DeleteThe view from your abode is priceless Andrew! Which floor are you on?
ReplyDeleteYP around 2/3rds towards the top.
DeleteAt this time of the year, on the top side of the earth, a tomato that tastes like a tomato is a rare find.
ReplyDeleteTP, while our larger tomatoes from retail stores can be poor at any time of the year, the cocktail tomatoes I buy are consistent throughout the year. They are expensive but I'd rather go without than eat poor quality tomatoes. I guess the cocktail ones are greenhouse grown.
DeleteThat IS a great view. I can see why you wouldn't want it steamed up!
ReplyDeleteSteve, the view is the reason I said yes to moving here, some 23 years ago.
DeleteMy neighbor has been gone on a ten day cruise, back late tomorrow night. I think it was very costly, so hope it was enjoyable. She said the cruise ship she's on holds 5000 passengers. That ship looks like it might hold that many also. The kissing booths, that's what we call them, have had their day here, but am unaware if any exist currently.
ReplyDeleteStrayer, cruises here are seen as relatively cheap. If you cost it as accommodation each night, they are bargains compared to even staying in a caravan park.
DeleteBeen looking up their prices, and yes seem very reasonable.
DeleteWhat a view you have. I just look out on other rooftops and some welcome trees.
ReplyDeletePat, I've been in a 2nd level apartment here, remember we have a ground floor, and it was lovely looking out into the elm trees. Maybe not so lovely when they are leafless but I still find deciduous trees in the winter quite attractive.
DeleteLovely photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pixie.
DeleteTomatoes. Look at all those tomatoes! What a sight to behold. If I lived next door, I'd be popping by to beg a few. I have had to give myself a stern reminder that seasons will change, and in a few months, I will (hopefully) have an abundance of my own tomatoes.
ReplyDelete*chants to herself* 'Spring is coming. Spring is coming!'
