Along with Sami and others, I am joining in with Monday Mural.
Presgrave Place starts off as a normal Melbourne lane with a cafe or two, but then it makes a dog leg, and the area becomes disgusting, stinking of urine, no doubt from males who use it as a pissoir and a crazy amount of art. There are a few gems among the mess.
I held my breath and it was fine.
ReplyDeleteThat has reminded me of P's first visit back to Melbourne in 30 years when we visited an old friend who still had his shoe repair shop in just such an area. He told us that one morning when he arrived to open the shop he found the body of a young man on the doorstep still with a needle hanging from his arm.
What a horrible find. The art's amazing, though. :) Be well, Andrew.
DeleteNo doubt it still happens JayCee but we do have one safe injecting room now, but neither major party is game to open another much needed one.
DeleteDarla, I have to suffer to show you the art.
DeleteIt's rather sexist to assume that only men urinate in Presgrave Place. I bet a few Aussie women have relieved themselves down there too. Have you done a tinkle there yourself Andrew?
ReplyDeletePossibly sexist YP, but men are the usual offenders. I have not but after a decent quantity of wine, I feel the strange urge to piss from the balcony, and don't tell her, but when I stay at my sister's, I always water the lawn outside.
DeleteNo wonder the grass is dying!
DeleteI enjoy browsing through each bit of the giant mess. Sometimes I find what I enjoy the most
ReplyDeleteRoentare, it is quite overwhelming to look at it all, but I am glad it is there.
DeleteThe robot picture has obviously been vandalized, but that actually makes it more interesting, for now it looks like it's shedding tears of blood. Is the Second Coming of the Machine Messiah at hand?
ReplyDeleteI am smiling widely at your thoughts, Kirk.
DeleteA lot of talent is represented there, most are very good. I like the cat that is third from the bottom. Every city must have a street or alley that gets used as a toilet.
ReplyDeleteDeb, I like the cat too. I believe we have more than one such location.
DeletePretty street art.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dora.
DeleteSome very interesting creations there. I do love the cats.
ReplyDeleteCats are good, Merlot.
DeleteLots of crazy cool stuff!
ReplyDeleteThat's what it is all about Bob.
DeleteDefinitely some colourful gems there. I like the wall of frames.
ReplyDeleteRiver, the frames put to a use rather than being thrown out.
DeleteGoodness, some of the murals you have shown are lovely. So no toilets nearby I guess.
ReplyDeleteMargaret, there is a public toilet maybe 200 metres away but I don't know if it stays open at night.
DeleteThat's a load of murals for one lane! My favourite is the cat. Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Andrew.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sami.
DeleteAn art filled city.
ReplyDeleteTp, and constantly changing.
DeleteThe frames are an interesting thing. I find myself looking about my own town and trying to see a place where such a thing could be started.
ReplyDeleteDebby, a lot of narrow lanes makes for a good canvas.
DeleteSome of these are quite good, Andrew.
ReplyDeleteThey are Pat, but just not the nicest place to see them.
DeleteWell, that IS a lot of cool artwork. I've photographed a lot of street art in piss-soaked alleyways. I guess the privacy that makes certain walls a target for artwork and graffiti also makes them a target for pissing!
