It was sad to hear the most brilliant performer Barry Humphries died, but at 89 clearly his best years were behind him.
Here are a couple of clips, the first brief and I doubt I need to tell you who his character is in the first clip. The second is longer and Sandy Stone of a different era was my favourite Humphries' character. He was just such an amazing performer. I think we saw Dame Edna on stage ever so many years ago.
A brilliant man and a born entertainer. He never seemed to follow anybody else's directions. He did it his way and though mischievous, his shows were never salacious or unpleasant because underneath it all I believe he loved his fellow humans. He leaves, as far as I know, no whiff of scandal behind him - no skeletons in his cupboards. Rest in Peace Barry... Edna... Les... Sandy - how ever you wish to be known.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had written that YP. Such a sweet tribute.
DeleteAlways amusing and irreverent. RIP.
ReplyDeleteJabBlog, irreverent is a great quality for me.
DeleteA great loss to the entertainment industry, he was quite funny. The clip of him in the Royal box is very funny. RIP
ReplyDeleteSami, the royal box clip is priceless.
DeleteSuch a loss! I loved the clip from the Royal Box -- several times I've had the privilege to occupy a box just two down from the Royal Box (which I've never seen the royals sitting in, BTW).
ReplyDeleteSteve, you were offered a better seat initially then.
DeleteVale indeed.
ReplyDeleteSuch a varied and talented performer. Sandy Stone was new to me - thank you. And him.
EC. I struggled to find good clips of Sandy Stone. The character was just marvellous.
DeleteNice tribute by YP. I loved Dame Edna but never knew of Sandy Stone. I hated the Les Patterson character, all that spitting of food and drink, falling all over people, I found it disgusting. There's no denying Barry Humphries had talent though and the world is a sadder place without him. No one will ever be as good.
ReplyDeleteMay he RIP.
ReplyDeleteWhat a funny man he was, just brilliant. Loved to listen and watch him as Dame Edna.
Thank you for sharing these clips. I am laughing as I type. Be well!
