I feel compelled to say something. I consider myself to be a decent person who is horrified by the death of many people at a Jewish celebration at Bondi Beach. Did I read somewhere that Muslims are not a good fit in Australia? Perhaps someone analysed crimes committed in Australia by race. Hmm...I think Jews would be quite low on the scale...Muslims, maybe not so much.
We need to remind ourselves that the majority of Muslims in Australia are peaceful people and are pleased to live in Australia, and become Australian citizens.
It only took hours for our conservative opposition party to start to pile on to our ruling Labor Party for not doing enough to protect Jews. I am not sure whether Australia has done enough. It has done plenty to protect Jewish Australians, but was it enough? I don't know, but it is way too early for the so called Liberal Party to attempt to take political advantage. Fuck off Opposition Leader, Ley.
But what about that fucking cunt arsehole, the corrupt Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, with the blood of thousands of innocent people on his hands, lecture Australia about protecting our Jewish citizens. How dare he!

DeleteWe are al sol helpless against this wickedness. There are good and bad on both sides. Religion has a lot to answer for the hatred that seems to stalk our streets. All we can d is condemn it.
Thelma, religion seems to do no good in the world. Extreme religious belief is worse.
DeleteHow is it that a nation that banned guns after the Port Arthur massacres in Tasmania in 1996 (except for police and the military) still gave out legal gun licences in the next 30 years???? How did the father and son murderers at Bondi have so many legal guns, with them on the beach and at home?
ReplyDeleteOf course the father-son duo could have killed swimmers with machetes or sledge hammers, but guns have no other purpose other than murder. This time, Australia should ban guns!
Hels, I really hope that after this horror, our gun laws are further tightened. Our gun lobby is not in the league of America's NRA, but it is quite powerful. We've just seen the horror legally owned guns can do. Our laws need to go much further.
DeleteHels; I wondered the same thing about the guns. How and why were they able to get them? Our gun laws are reasonably strong, but it seems not strong enough.
DeleteIt was a shocking attack on peaceful families enjoying the start of Hanukkah. It's interesting that it was a Muslim man who tackled one of the gunmen.
ReplyDeleteJB, mainstream media here is not mentioning that a Muslim stopped a Muslim and maybe that's a good thing. But like you, I noted it.
DeleteWere the shooters Muslim? I heard Islamic, backed by the same crowd that is causing mayhem overseas in Israel.
DeleteSo much hatred is being whipped up everywhere. It seems to be escalating with no end in sight.
ReplyDeletei am sickened by it all.
JayCee, it seems to be a world wide trend, to preach hate and act in hate.
DeleteA very sad attack, and can't understand how they had so many legal guns, when gun control in Australia is supposed to be strict! We certainly don't want to be another America!
ReplyDeleteI don't understand either Sami. I hope there is a huge clamp down.
DeleteIt was very saddening to read the news reports.
ReplyDeleteMassacres of innocent people are always so saddening, TP. Australians cannot be too smug about 'strict gun laws'.
DeleteDreadful happening and it's kind of hard to believe it happened in our country. I've been following on Channel 7. This evening the guns can only be registered/and owned by Australian citizens and less of them.
ReplyDeleteThat Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, what dreadful things he says.
The man who saved many from being killed is a Muslim, a good one and a hero - he did a very good job.
I really don't know why so many don't care for Jews - seems I will never understand it.
Such sad times, and such a tragic happening, Andrew.
Margaret, a shot gun and a single shot rifle is more than enough. No rapid fire guns at all for average citizens. I'd ban most people having them.
DeleteI watched the bystander tackle the gunmen, brave man. And the shooters, cowards. I'm sick to death of religion being used as an excuse for killing people.
ReplyDeletePixie, he was extraordinarily brave, even though once a policeman himself.
DeleteIt's not a good look to have people being shot on the beach. The fact is they were shot by muslims, its also Isis doing disruptive protests in eastern capitals recently, over issues not relevant to this countty.
ReplyDeleteAussiebel, anecdotally, the Irish left behind their prejudices when they emigrated to Australia. I wish other races would.
DeleteHatred one side, hatred the other, violence from all. Common flashpoint seems to be religion, one or another. And access to weapons. For innocent people trying to celebrate to end up in gunfire, awful. I was impressed by comments from Australians about children in gunfire. They seem mortified and want to protect children from experiencing such horror immediately. We're not that way in America. Nothing done after hundreds of kids slaughtered in school shootings.
ReplyDeleteStrayer, yes when guns become involved, it takes things to a much higher level than protests on the street. So many parents dropped themselves over their children to save them, as did one man to protect his wife. He died.
DeleteAhmed al Ahmed was a true Australian hero that awful day and though this may displease the likes of Netanyahu, a true Muslim hero too.
ReplyDeleteYP, he was. That he is a Muslim made no difference to his heroism. I am sure in time, he will be honourably recognised. How many lives might he have saved.
DeleteNetanyahu is a pig and as I have said ever since 9/11 Muslims are NOT terrorists; terrorists are terrorists.
ReplyDeleteQuite correct Bob. Thank you, and we need to remember this.
DeleteAll are forgetting it was a Muslim who, unarmed, tackled one of the shooters, suffering bullet wounds himself. I hate the goddam rhetoric around this. Including from my own family. The "othering" without any facts whatsoever. We can all hold two thoughts. Hate Hamas and Netanyahu and support Israel and Gaza. JFC, I am seething.

WWW
We are not forgetting that at all WWW, not here anyway. There doesn't seem to be so much anger here, as a great sadness settling over our nation. It will pass but it will take time.
DeleteWhere did all these awful leaders come from? And why do they have so many people cheering them o ?
ReplyDeleteI don't know Debby. How come 77 million voted for you know who? Do they regret doing so? I hope so.
DeleteSorry...I meant to say how shocking the Bondi Beach incident was. And yet, the first thing that happened was a rational open dialog about how to prevent such a thing from happening again.
ReplyDeleteJewish people seem very angry with our government, but really, I don't know what more it could have done. Our intelligence agencies may have been caught off step, given the further information that has come to light.
DeleteCrime cannot be justified by any explanation. It's disturbing to see violence committed in the name of religion. Crime is simply crime, full stop. It's also so sad that some politicians try to exploit such tragedies for political gain. It's practically impossible for a government to give security to each and everyone.
ReplyDeleteQuite so Pradeep. Mass murder is exactly that, but society seems bent on placing values on humans, that some are worth more than others, such as Gaza, northern Africa...the list is long.
